Based on its reviews we made a late decision to visit No.8. So we arrived very much prepared for what we found; tables all occipied! However, a very helpful waitress offered to accommodate us if we didn't mind returning in thirty minutes...which naturally we were...More

From the outside this looks like a tearoom, but don't be put off. Book a table for an evening meal and enjoy a great, modern-style bistro menu. The food was excellent with a reasonably priced wine list and friendly staff. It will be on our...More

A friend and I were staying overnight and wanted to go somewhere unfussy but good quality without opting for a chain restaurant. Luckily we booked because on arrival for our table at 8.30pm we realised the restaurant was totally booked up on a Monday night!...More

Small bistro; we popped in for a snack and a break. It has a nice atmosphere. The fish finger sandwich was excellent (actually homemade battered fish sticks and crayfish tails); the scone was so-so.

Small bistro- cafe with a nice small backyard garden. Been there for lunch, everything was tasty, the service was quick and polite. Try chicken liver pate for starter and rhubarb for dessert, they're great!

We were staying nearby and went in about 6pm before a ghost walk. We were lucky to get a table as they were fully booked (Friday eve). The food was the best we ate in York, ambient little place, would highly recommend if you're around...More

I rarely rate anywhere as either 5 or 1 as I tend to ignore all such ratings when judging where to go myself, as such ratings are rarely objective. However, in this instance I have to break my usual rule as Cafe No 8 Bistro...More

Went here last night for a meal for two. I had the pork buns to start and then the rump steak. My wife had the halloumi to start and the fish pie. Then a shared chocolate dessert to finish. The halloumi salad was delicious with...More

Description
Our small-but-beautiful bistro is found on the busy and lively Gillygate in York. A street full of independent shops and businesses, it leads right into the heart of York through one of its ancient City gates.

A traditional and cosy bistro front room that evokes the brasseries of Paris connects to a more spacious and lighter garden room at the rear. This in turn leads to our charming and secluded garden area adjoining the City Walls and basking in the glory of the fabulous York Minster. Whether you come for breakfast, for lunch, or an evening meal, the bistro provides a delightful setting for you to enjoy your meal.

Ideal for romantic couples, families or large groups, Café No.8’s bistro offers simple, modern, quality food at excellent value. Make a reservation and see why we consistently appear in ‘top places to eat’ lists both locally and nationally.
