We hadn't been to the Red Lion for a couple of years having previously felt that the quality of the food, staff and overall ambience was declining. Our visit on Saturday wouldn't prompt us to rush back but the food was okay, perhaps slightly overpriced, but no major issues. The wine list had quite a few missing items, apparently due... More

Took my wife, mother in law and 2 children for Sunday lunch. We've been here many times before, but more recently I've found myself disappointed with the experience. We had 4 roast dinners and the cheese burger. My son devoured the cheese burger without complaint, and it did look well presented and pretty tasty. That said, I'm sure the burger... More

Booked a table to meet family and friends for a special occasion lunch. The service left a lot to be desired as it was slow and the waitress unengaged and surly. The food was good but a little over-priced. Will not be returning, mainly due to the attitude of the staff. My friend's dessert was plonked in front of her... More

Booked a table for 14 for a work Christmas meal, it was a week before the Christmas menu came out the staff I dealt with on the phone were helpful and polite, I supplied a pre order of all the food, the pub allowed us to bring our own crackers and gave us a corner area of the pub, all... More

Nice pub with a warm welcoming atmosphere. Food was good and tasty, but all meals are definetly overpriced for what they are! Polite staff, but could be a little more attentive.Nobody bothered to enquire if we wanted more drinks with our meal, consequently,my husband had to go to the bar and ask for service. Still, there was one unexpected bonus. When I checked the bill... More

A group of seven of us ate there last night and l have to state this is one of the worst meals l have had in a long time. The sea trout dish promised flavours of gin and earl gray served with toasted rye bread. What was presented was a bland set of flavours with no hint of a marinade... More

Had eaten at this pub many times before. Decided to book on 28th September for my 40th on October 14th for 15 family members. Approached the bar to announce our arrival and order some drinks we were told there was no booking for us, "you must have the wrong pub." "Are you sure you booked?" "We can't seat 15 of... More

Description
Based in the pretty village of Brafield-on-the-Green just outside of Northampton, The Red Lion is a traditional yet upmarket country pub surrounded by Northamptonshire countryside. A real retreat for anyone who visits, The Red Lion offers a relaxed ambience and superb Modern European cuisine. The lounge is a cosy space filled with leather sofas, the garden is simply beautiful and the dining room is the slightly more formal area. At the helm of the kitchen is Chef Chris Simpson who boasts extensive experience on the London gastro pub scene. His menu is full of exciting dishes such as braised corn fed chicken with bean and chorizo cassoulet or lamb rump with rosemary polenta, Savoy cabbage and red wine jus. Having received a nod from none other than Egon Ronay, The Red Lion is well worth checking out if you are in the area.
