I have been here a few times and each time I have ordered the smoked cheddar pie as it is delicious. The pub has a lovely, traditional atmosphere and is not too busy during lunch times (when I have visited anyway!!) Amazing to be sat...More

Outstanding food and company. Went a number of times and tried different menu items. Always seem to be able to find people to chat with. Very sociable. Lewis and Carrol were regular visitors during their time and there are still many reminders of their times...More

My husband and I chose this venue based on the wide choice on the menu. However upon arrival we were somewhat taken aback by the rather off handed welcome. We sat at a table in the conservatory which was very cold.we both chose a pie...More

A beautiful pub where C.S.Lewis used to go for a pinte. A nice atmosphere and a warm welcome are a plus. This pub is unmissable in the heart of Oxford. Good choice of ales. It's definitly a pub crawling spot.

Cons: Historic Bespoke Good drinks selection Tastefully extended Cons: A bit dated Slow service Expensive My wife and I took her parents here for a drink as we waited for her sister and her family to join us. It was very "oxford", and I'm sure...More

Food and ale on tap are underwhelming but to be in the Rabbit room where Lewis And Tolkien read their works to their friends is impressive. Now owned by Oxford, the profits go to student scholarships

Given the history I expected a lot more from this pub. In the end I didn't think it was worth the walk from the broad st area. It needs a good clean and refurb, starting with the toilets.More

Ivan, we like to keep the Heritage of the site, as it is a listed building. Updating it would most definitely spoil its past. The toilets are very small and as you probably saw we do get very busy in the pub. I apologise if...More

This is a must see for history buffs! This is where The “Inklings”met, which included J.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, and others. I come here whenever in Oxford for reasonably price food and beer.

Just look at it! I won’t say what it resembles. Was utterly foul. And the service is genuinely appalling - the absolute worst in Oxford. The only reason this place still exists is because of tourists visiting Tolkien’s old haunt. As a pub, as a...More

But not a tremendously good pub. Kind of ugly inside and the food is so-so. Not worth a trip unless you are a devoted Tolkein or CS Lewis fan.

Sorry to hear your expeiriance was average, but I have to say we do love our 'ugly' interior... it's very old and traditional!
