As daily regulars to the pub, we will not be daily anymore. We used to sit in comfy sofas in the conservatory which has now been re-vamped to something that looks like a cafe! The bar was crowded and noisy. I preferred the decor in...More

Re-visited today for lunch after refurbishment and we were very impressed. Very relaxed surroundings and attentive friendly staff. Prompt service and the food was excellent. Have visited many times over the years for meals and this was the best.

We have attended the 'soft launch' of the Bear and Ragged Staff under the group 'Peach Pubs' . The refurbishment of the pub is lovely and very smart - quite 'gastro pub' so if that's your sort of thing you will like the new look....More

Busy in both the bar & restaurant on a Friday night. What will a Monday evening be like. Not sure about the revamped decor - is the Bear statue still about? Drinks seemed expensive. Standard Peach food menu. Definitely seems to have reverted more to...More

The place is now closed for refurbishments and sadly will re-open under new management as part of a chain. The new manager said that he plans to start with getting the pub going, and the menu on the site is far from inspiring... Sad to...More

Questions & Answers
Please can you review how you present Sunday lunch? From the way you present your food and the passion you clearly show it was strange to see cold, brittle and burnt Yorkshire puddings on 5 of the 6 plates... looking at other tables they too were similarly served. It may be better not to serve them if you find you have to pre-cook and reheat- I know you have to mass produce a lot for Sunday roasts but please do a quality review to see how you can serve them freshly baked? The roast beef was so evenly sliced it may be factory pre-cooked? The connective tissue was un-rendered in the slices I had which was unpleasant - again possibly because of the sheer number you have to get through I appreciate that you have to get through a lot of work but might be worth a review to check? Lastly the gravy served was over thickened and gloopy- possibly a batch that had been rushed late in the serving but it would be good to serve in gravy boats rather than cover the meat/ boiled veg on every plate, so people have the choice to serve themselves with what they want? I appreciate that Sunday roasts are hard work but with such a big turnover it would be worth checking things that might be slipping through that you may not be aware of, through no fault of your front of house staff who were friendly and helpful and lovely.
