We stopped in for afternoon tea rather than the coffee, and it was a nice rest with good food. A bit noisy and crowded, so the service was a little slow, but not bad. It took them a while to arrange payment by credit card, though.

We had a lovely lunch meal, more than enough food on the plate! The Turkish red wine was surprisingly nice as was the banana milk drink. The coffee, however, (for the oldest coffee house in England!) was a bit disappointing.

We visited one Saturday afternoon. It was packed. We managed to find a table but waited quite a while to be served. The coffee was not memorable but the pecan pie was very good.

This is supposedly the oldest coffee house in England. Unfortunately not much of a nice and unique atmosphere is left. Coffe is being served in mugs you would expect at Starbucks, but not in a place with that much history. Not much to see here, more like your average coffee place.

You can have an excellent and large breakfast here, and appreciate the bustle of the High St outside. The service is good, the food tasy, and you are in the midst of the colleges, next to Queens and opposite Univ. The Ruskin and also the neo-palladian building 'Schools'

Four of us stopped for coffee - without food - and were pleased with the products and service. All four drinks - hot chocolate, flat white, latte and cinnamon coffee were good and good sized.

Lovely food and coffee at reasonable prices. As well as very friendly service. All in a historic setting.

Since we were in Oxford for a walkabout sightseeing day we wanted to have a snack and a coffee somewhere that at least looked traditional . We came across this cafe and it fitted the bill . Service was not too quick but it was friendly and we weren't disappointed by the drinks or the bites . There were quite... More

The locals I met at Magdelen College told me to try this place out for afternoon tea, so I googled it and saw recent reviews about this place on tripadvisor saying that service was poor and the food average. I also saw some people comment that it was as good as ever (since this is one of the oldest cafes... More
