We came across this little pub in a most charming street. Decided on starters of potted crab and shrimp plus jalapeño prawns and whitebait. Just right. Nicely served, tasty with good bread and mayo. Friendly staff and a lovely relaxed cosy ambience. Reasonable price and an enjoyable evening.

This little boozer doesn't hold many people and is quite far out of town but definitely worth a visit. There are 2 rooms, the front only housing 2 tables and a piano and the back a few more but the real space here is the outside area which is completely enclosed and has heaters. We sat in the front room... More

Low ceilings. Wooden floors. Many little rooms. Classic! Menu is not varied but what they have is carefully and quickly prepared. Outdoor backyard is wonderful spot. Covered so can sit outside in rain.

This is a pub where there is a decent selection of ales, no background music, a really lovely garden, the barmen wears a tie, and the food is reasonably priced and good value. George Orwell would probably be quite happy with this place. I've been a here a number of times and it is a becoming a "go to". Really... More

We popped in for a quick drink and were given a warm welcome from the lady behind the bar. Good beer. Obviously popular with locals. Quite a big yard at the back with tables. Is really old-fashioned and has lots of character. Prices a lot steeper than in the North!

We were staying near to the Rose & Crown, looked in earlier and then returned for early drinks - a very welcoming pub, there were so many people there at early doors, it really speaks for itself. We perched by a table as you go in, and had to wait for people to leave the bar at the back, before... More

This pub, my local is the real thing when it comes to a local pub. Friendly warm proprietors great beer, spirit and wine offer and decent real pub grub. Not glossy but what it lacks in modern comfort it more than makes up for in character. The epitome of a local that trades on what is now an old pub... More

This is a very quirky pub. I love it. They serve great beers with a guest ale which is always lovely. The food is great . A friendlier pub you will struggle to find. A real gem.

I visited the Rose and Crown while staying in Oxford. I was greeted with a warm welcome. The small bar has an excellent range of beers with a friendly atmosphere. I had a salad, reasonably priced and it arrived quickly. What can I say but highly recommended.

In Oxford you'll find a warm welcome at the Rose and Crown (built in 1863). Run by Deborah and Andrew for 30years, the award winning pub is popular with students, locals and tourists of all ages and interests. The bar stocks a range of traditional English bitter on handpump, as well as good wines, malt whiskies, Belgian bottled beers and lager. The menu offers a selection of hot and cold meals, freshly made sandwiches and light snacks. The traditional interior is simply styled with a cosy, characterful atmosphere and to the rear a vine-draped, heated and covered courtyard. Close to the town centre.
