We know that not everyone wants the same thing from a pub. You might want a pint of local real ale at the bar ... A bottle of wine and a grazing board on the sofas ... A meal in the dining room ... A really good coffee and a read of the paper ... Take your pick. If real ale is your thing, look no further. We offer our own Brewshed Best Bitter and Pale Ale plus a couple of guest ales. We're passionate about wine and have created an award winning list which offers a selection of old favorites combined with some more unusual and quirky wines. Brilliant food, wine and service. The cod cheek scampi was amazing, the other three dishes we ordered were all excellent too. Great choice of wines. Lovely staff. Highly recommended.

A really lovely setting for a birthday meal out. The staff were friendly and attentive. The food was very nice but was very limited on vegetarian dishes

In Bury St Edmunds for a day out, we saw a sign advertising this pub. Had a look at them menu posted up outside and thought we’d give it a try. Well glad we did. Interior was lovely and the food amazing. I had the...lamb burger which came with fries. I’m one of those annoying people that has meat well done 😊. The server recommended that I have the burger medium as it maybe tough if cooked for longer, so went with it. Cooked to perfection. I can honestly say it was one of the best lamb burgers I’ve had in a long time. Burger had riata (not sure if that is the correct spelling, lettuce and tomato, accompanied with red cabbage slaw and skinny fries. Well only managed half the bun, ate the remaining burger naked. Truly delicious. OH had scampi which came with tartare sauce already in the scampi. Asked the server if they could remove the sauce and they happily obliged. Cooked him a fresh set of scampi. Dessert OH had lemon meringue which came with raspberry sorbet and I had the chocolate brownie that had the most amazing melt in the mouth honeycomb. All in all a fantastic lunch, the servers were all friendly and very helpful and would definitely come back again.More

Very disappointing visit. Pleasant and helpful staff and nice and comfortable surroundings but the food was really disappointing. I had a ham hock ploughmans. It was presented very well and looked really appetising, however, the tomato was completely tasteless, the apple very sharp and the...soft boiled egg tasted of nothing at all (I don't think I have ever eaten an egg that had no taste). The bread, which I think was focaccia, was very greasy and for me, it didn't suit the meal. A ploughmans, suggested to me to have had french bread or a crusty loaf cut in slices. My husband's meal was chicken and leek pie with cabbage and leek on the side, which he said was not cooked. However, he is not fond of al dente vegetables and I know they are popular with many restaurants, so perhaps that was just his preference. He also said the chicken was stringy rather than in pieces which he didn't like. You will be asking why didn't we complain at the time (which we should have done) but we had a friend with us and we didn't want to embarrass her. Sadly, we won't be returning.More

Turned up as a walk in late on a Sunday and was promptly squeezed in. We sat and had a drink at the bar, ordered our food, before being shown over to our table. Starters were simple but delicious, Cheddar Rarebit on toast with the...nicest onion jam & a ham hock terrine with piccalilli. Then the main course, over the past year we have had a Sunday roast in here on multiple occasion and every time it has been just as good as before. The roast beef is pink and tender with exceptional flavour. The roast potatoes are light and fluffy in the middle but crispy on the outside and the veg selection is always ample & the extra jug of gravy is a nice touch. Service was warm, friendly and attentive without being over-baring. Always our go to for a roast on a Sunday.More

The bull has always been a favourite of my partner and I. Came last Monday originally just for drinks and ended up staying for dinner! Had the haddock scotch egg which was still perfectly runny in the middle and the baked cod which presented beautifully...and equally as delicious. Service, as always, was flawless!More

Having visited several times before, very disappointed with the lunch. Focaccia smoked cheddar was inedible. I can only liken it to trying to eat hot cheese with cornflakes. Complaint was brushed aside. Waiter excellent.

I would suggest that you avoid this restaurant if you wish to take family members or friends who are vegetarian or vegan out for a meal unless they like the only options of a very salty pea and garlic risotto (with or without goat's cheese...and no other vegetables) and a beetroot salad (with or without burrata and a very strange pesto) with beetroot that has come straight out a tin, at exorbitant prices. It is far from vegetarian- friendly as advertised, let alone vegan-friendly.More

Really disappointed was looking forward to Sunday lunch as a pescatarian only to be told that the mussels were no longer available and the only other option was fish and chips hardly Sunday lunch, even the mussels was a strange option on a Sunday ,...looking at the sample menu before we booked was a cod dish which sounded perfect ,starters were also very limited not as advertised , the roast beef which my husband had was more fat than meat . The only thing I can honestly say we enjoyed was the wine, we have been several times and always enjoyed the food but today was awful. Service was also very poor , when seated we were told there was a lot of youngsters on so service was probably going to be slow . He wasn’t wrong . Would I eat here again probably not after such a bad experience. But would avoid Sunday lunch in futureMore

Fabulous Sunday lunch for Mother’s Day. Service outstanding. Food very good but the gravy was quite poor with the delicious roast beef. Sadly no little present for mums which would have made the experience so much better.

Fabulous experience from start to finish. Service was impeccable as was the food. Being able to linger at our table over a bottle of excellent Barry Bros shiraz rounded off our evening well. Would especially recommend the special of Skrei Cod in Brown Crab Butter...- loved it. We'll be back for the Spring menu in a few weeks. 10/10.More

We went here with friends and had a super evening. The service was great & what we ate was perfect. My husband & my friends husband had the feather blade steak, my friend had pie & mash & I had the barbecued leek with chickpeas...& tarragon sauce. Every mouthful was a delight. The desserts were equally delicious, rice pudding with ginger, sticky toffee sundae & sticky toffee pudding enjoyed. There was no rush or time limit on how long we were at the table which made for a relaxed evening.More

This place is a great place to meet friends, eat lunch and catch up in a relaxed friendly atmosphere. There was a lovely fire burning in the hearth, the service was welcoming, efficient and friendly. The food was delicious, an interesting choice of dishes, everyone...enjoyed their lunch. The Malbec wine was excellent. I would highly recommend The One Bull.More

Met up with old friends at this pub/ restaurant. They have their own brewery and produce some very nice Ale. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly and there is a good ambience. Sunday lunch is a short menu but very good. My Roast Beef was...well cooked and well presented, vegetables were shared across the table. All in all, a lovely lunch.More
