We wanted a real beer and a real Sunday lunch. Everything lived up to that. Fantastic old Victorian building with museum quality furnishing style. The food was great and the beer top quality. Real food at burger chain prices. Well done to all you deserve to make a real success of the place.

Popped in with an Hunslet Hawks regular prior to Rugby league match versus Doncaster. This heritage ale house has at least 4 sectioned rooms accessed by a hallway, mosaic floors, decoratively tiled walls, bars one can but dream of in the modern era. Great value drink, friendly staff with the history of Hunslet RLFC adorning the walls. Definitely worth a... More

A short bus ride or a twenty minute walk from the railway station.. A beautifully preserved Edwardian pub. Grade two star listed and hidden in a local authority housing estate. Well done to Leeds Brewery for saving it. Several good real ales. Leeds Pale was excellent. The food menu was basic pub food. Sandwiches, jacket potatoes, burgers ext. We enjoyed... More

Under new management, the food is simple and well presented. Limited choice but very good. If you are around Hunslet on a Sunday or any other day,I would recommend you dine here.

Easier to find than the poor directions on the pub website suggest. If this beautiful pub was in the centre of Leeds it would be packed each night. As it is, it mainly seems to serve a small estate. Good on Leeds Brewery for re-opening The Garden Gate, which was closed for a while, but I find their beers mediocre,... More

This is a pub that was saved from demolition in the nineteen seventies by some local activists. It is a superb building with several rooms all with the original layout and decor from 1903. Most of the surrounding buildings were demolished and replaced with standard local authority housing. I visited here in September 2015 and had some of the well... More
