We used to go to this place for a coffee and sumptuous cakes but alas, the previous owners have been replaced and we will not be visiting again. The coffee was pretty basic including the cakes on sale, bland, bland bland - not a patch...More

First visit this lunchtime. The french onion soup and salt-beef in toasted ciabatta were both excellent. Pleasant friendly, but busy, staff and good atmosphere. Fantastic choice of beautiful, artistic patisserie.

Popped in to grab some cakes after shopping! Found staff lacked knowledge about ingredients, having an allergy I need to be informed, was disappointed with my purchase, will probably try one more time maybe it was a bad day being as they were busy.More

An adoring selection of classics. Must recommend the Macaroons! I was forced to take a box home for my personal consumption.

Yes I have to agree that the macaroons are to die for. They are simply the best in the south. Thanks for your comments

Small, friendly and everything is made from scratch. How do chains survive in Salisbury when the is an amazing independent like this?

I was only talking to Colin yesterday about his macaroons and that the macaroons available in other shops do not have the depth of filling nor the taste. You can not beat home made! Thanks for your comments which are always appreciated

I found this gem just after it opened, and have used it as a regular stop for myself as well as introducing it to friends. The patisseries are delicious (macaroons are divine) and the staff are so lovely. A sweet place with quality food, a...More

Get your map out and find this little gem at all costs, why this shop is not located on the main High Street I just do not know. I understand that all the fantastic and amazing cakes are home made by the owner. There is...More

Thank you so much for our kind moments which are greatly appreciated by Colin and Maggie. The reason why we are not on the High Strert is the large rents and the even higher business rates. The multi nationals can afford those by not the...More

Had salt beef on rye bread with gherkins, mustard, a little salad and a balsamic dressing, delicious! Then chose black forest gateaux, again delicious. We usually go at the end of an afternoon for tea and cake and take one or two cakes for my...More

Thank you so much for the kind comments which mean so much to both Colin and Maggie. Especially after the last really bad review( which we think came from local competition) it is so reassuring to know that we still have loyal customers.

Small but good food and drink - nice service - a little pricey but worth a try if you have time. Lots of competition in Salisbury but not the worst.

We are sorry that you did not enjoy your visit to The Desert Shop. The cuisine is based on high standard continental pastry work, especially the cakes and tarts which are French inspired. Colin,a pastry chef of some repute, produces everything with no products brought...More
