Visited mid week with twenty others in a pre-arranged booking. We were tended on hand & foot, staff dealt with every request with a smile (& also served several other groups of 20+ guests). We have frequented the Thatched Tavern since 1995 & it maintains...More

Great environment but there’s still a lot if work to be done around the food both in terms of variety, presentation and taste. Such a shame for a place like this not to have great pub food.

Disappointed service and food, our four meals were poor flavour and seasoning, garlic mushrooms had fresh and dried ones together, the dried ones were very chewy and stringy, I had lamb, cubed carrots and sweed were under cooked, a big lump of mashed potato that...More

Sunday lunch recently with friends. Staff were polite and organised. Meals arrived well presented. Sunday roast came and the beef was dried out ( obviously kept warm under some heat, in our case not hot enough though) Compared to other local Pubs , the food...More

We met friends here and had a group of 8. Reservation is essential if you want a bar meal for this size - the pub got very busy even on a weekday. The food was very good - very tasty indeed. Our food came without...More

Description
Built around 1480, The Thatched Tavern was originally a farmhouse with a croft (a small farm). There was also a Blacksmiths forge at the back of the building where the kitchen hatch is now, and a wood store at the end of the bar.During the reign of Queen Anne (1701) Cheapside and the surrounding area became recognised as a fashionable place to be seen. The Royal Races on Ascot Heath (as it was then known) also began, although a bit sporadicallyThe Thatched Tavern only became a pub, or tap house as it was known then, in about 1760; it was one of the three most popular drinking establishments in the hamlet of Cheapside. In the early 1900’s it became the main drinking centre in Cheapside, known as ‘The Old Thatch’ The Landlord at this time used to sell local medicine used to cure most ills, consisting of 2 penn’orth of rum and 4 penn’orth of a secret mixture known as warmit! The Tavern has been owned and is loved by many. Some of our locals have been coming here for over 50 years!
