It left a good impression on my last visit so I was keen to return and see if it was still the same. From our table we had birds eye view of the work taking place in the kitchens which due to a full restaurant very busy. Our orders were taken and the vegetarian in our party was very appreciative... This is a really old country pub full of character and original features serving excellent food. Service was faultless and staff couldn't do enough for you. Well worth a visit - would highly recommend this 'gastro pub'. A really well balanced menu and a good choice of wines. Eight of us sat at a round table and ate 2 -... More

The Thatched Tavern is a lovely old pub. Original features: beamed ceilings, a real fire and uneven flooring make it a beautiful and quaint chharachterful environment to have a drink in. The food is good too and there is a lovely beer garden for the summer.

The Thatched Tavern is three hundred years old so on the way to the restaurant modern men and women have to duck or grouse as it says on the very low (cushioned) beams. Unless it is summer, there is usually a log fire in the bar and often a lot of locals with their dogs. No piped music - occasionally... More

Service was wonderful, unique warm atmosphere with excellent food. Best place we have tried in the area. We had the pheasant with a wonderfully priced Malbec wine. Did not have room for dessert but starters and main were wonderfully prepared.

We were staying in a hotel/spa for a weekend in camberley and one of the guest's recommended us this pub as i was a chef or if we couldn't get in its sister the bricklayers pub. I was quite excited to try this country pub and saw the good reviews online. The Young bar lady was very attentive and helpful... More

Always a great menu and good wine. Sometimes staff can be a bit slow because they are new or very busy, but they are very accommodating. Food and wine make up for slower service.

Decided to come here after it being recommended and we were not disappointed. The food was delicious, plentiful, service excellent and good value in a lovely ambiance. Booking ahead essential as the restaurant was packed which speaks for itself.

Description
Built around 1480, The Thatched Tavern was originally a farmhouse with a croft (a small farm). There was also a Blacksmiths forge at the back of the building where the kitchen hatch is now, and a wood store at the end of the bar.During the reign of Queen Anne (1701) Cheapside and the surrounding area became recognised as a fashionable place to be seen. The Royal Races on Ascot Heath (as it was then known) also began, although a bit sporadicallyThe Thatched Tavern only became a pub, or tap house as it was known then, in about 1760; it was one of the three most popular drinking establishments in the hamlet of Cheapside. In the early 1900’s it became the main drinking centre in Cheapside, known as ‘The Old Thatch’ The Landlord at this time used to sell local medicine used to cure most ills, consisting of 2 penn’orth of rum and 4 penn’orth of a secret mixture known as warmit! The Tavern has been owned and is loved by many. Some of our locals have been coming here for over 50 years!
