3 of us went to this pub today for lunch and as recommended on Trip Advisor we made a reservation . The staff were very welcoming , helpful and friendly . The variety of food on offer on £9.95 specials board of a main and a pudding was excellent -and when our food arrived it looked fantastic - freshly cooked... More

It is many years since we had eaten at the Duke of York, but we were looking to take some friends out for a meal and fancied somewhere we hadn't been for a while just for a change. Unable to find any website to look at a menu, we were almost put off from going, but some good reviews from... More

My wife and I together with two friends ate here on a Thursday evening. The staff could not do any more to make sure you food was great and you enjoyed your evening. 10/10 can't wait till we revisit to the Monday night pie and pea's special.

Warm welcome, cosy bar with log fire. We both had stilton and steak pie, Dauphinoise potatoes with fresh vegetables. Friendly and efficient service. Two courses would have been £9.95 but when we said we were full after one we were given that and a drink for the same price. Excellent value for money and delicious food. Thoroughly recommended.

My wife, two children and I went to the Duke of York today for Sunday lunch. We didn't know how busy it would be and on the off chance there was one table left. Front of house were welcoming, friendly and helpful, they even took time to chat and joke with the kids. They were very hospitable and even though... More

From the moment that the friendly and helpful Linda took our reservation I could sense that the Duke of York had something special about it, didn't I? And our visit this evening absolutely confirmed that this is an excellently different and excellent place to go and eat. Andy, our barman-menu consultant (yes, he actually sat down with us and discussed... More

Landlord and staff are exceptionally welcoming. The food was delicious - home made pies, lots of fresh veg, gorgeous puddings - 2 courses for £10.95 - a brilliant deal. And a warm log fire. We returned 3 times in the week that we stayed in a cottage nearby. Too good to miss!

A warm welcome, brilliant banter, a mouth-watering menu with wines and beers to match and superb service. Our venison casserole, venison pie and seafood pie were as good as any of us can remember as well as excellent value for money. Uncomplicated, unpretentious, un-fussy and unbelievably good. An evening with great friends that we will long remember. Thank you!

We were staying at a cottage five minutes walk away and visited the Duke of York several times. Great welcome from Miles and Andy (Bagpuss), superb real ale and food (the steak and stilton pie was melt in the mouth). Proper local, cosy pub. Thanks Miles and Andy for making us feel so welcome, and great to see Miles again... More
