We walked in on a busy Saturday evening without a booking and were warmly welcomed and shown to a table. Delicious drinks followed and then we ordered arancini, mussels and goats cheese for starters. DELICIOUS! Arancini flavourful with a delicious tomato sauce and mussels had a wonderfully warming tomato and chilli sauce. Mains-pizza (dough impeccable), tagliatelle Vecchio with ample scallops and chorizo and Fritto misto with lovely light batter. Dessert-soufflés were definitely fondant cake and not souffles and brûlée was delicious but needed either fruit/berries or a shortbread but still yummy. Service was faultless; with a Smile, warm and super efficient. Three of us each eating three courses with one drinker £87. Will definitely be back.

Almost faultless.Well done Franco! Asparagus in Parma ham starter was outstanding. Monkfish also wrapped in Parma ham delicious. Service was faultless and very efficient atmosphere was excellent , the place was buzzing. Love the vibe which hasn’t changed much from the previous ‘Cottage’ but a couple of improvements. One small thing the only veg was broccoli and not everyone likes broccoli tweak that a bit and I’d definitely rate you a five. We went for the more expensive menu but the pasta pizza dishes looked very reasonable

I have had 2 meals there in the last two weeks and the food has been sublime! Each time I had the King prawn starter with garlic& chilli, the sirloin steak was cooked to perfection and all three of us thoroughly enjoyed it,the creme brulee nice and light to finish a super meal off.The following day I had two beautiful Seabass fillets. The service is always first class

£10 booking fee to secure a table for Valentine’s day. The goats cheese starter was beautiful. We fancied a fillet steak off the menu, however we were told we should have phoned to let them know because they do not stock it. We ordered the 10oz Sirloin for £22 plus £2 for a sauce. The sirloin came with two boiled potatoes and some leaves. We didn’t get a sauce each as we requested. Franco offered us another bowl of potatoes that never came. I had one glass of rosé and my partner had water. No desserts. In total we paid £74! Unbelievably overpriced and disappointed with the lack of food/veg that came with the sirloin. The meat itself was full of fat. We’ve always praised Franco and looked forward to his food but this has taken us by surprise. Shame.

I visited this restaurant with my wife and our baby. We had been driving for about 5 hours coming down from England to visit family and really needed something to eat so called in here on a whim. It was a bank holiday evening and they were packed but they worked very hard to seat the three of us with no reservation. The staff were a real pleasure and genuinely lovely with the little one. The food was so delicious too. We both had pasta dishes which were delicious and authentic; I honestly don't think I've had such good pasta and I spent a year in Italy! It was cooked to perfection and the flavours were mind blowing. The wine was also great & worked so well with the pasta. Service was very prompt even though the restaurant was extremely busy and all staff were extremely polite and helpful at all times, as was the owner/manager who checked in to make sure everything was ok multiple times. We thought the food was a great price for the high quality too, we expected to pay much more. I would highly recommend this restaurant and we will definitely call in again in the future. What a real pleasure this was for us. I only wish we lived closer so we could visit every weekend x

Had a brilliant meal at Francos! There were 4 of us and all throughly enjoyed! We had the lunch menu 2 courses for £14.95 and some of us had a dessert too! The service was absolutely outstanding!!!! Franco and his colleague were so attentive always checking to make sure our meals were Ok. Obviously we all had soft drinks. I opted for the carbonara which was beautiful! And a starter of risotto in balls (forgot the name). We will definitely be returning, thank you so much Franco and colleagues!

We only recently rediscovered that force of nature which is Franco, now the owner of Il Vecchio, where we have enjoyed some excellent meals. So, we selected Il Vecchio for my daughter’s 60th birthday lunch, & on the day were greeted by Franco & a young waitress, guided to our table, ordered drinks & had them delivered seamlessly & instantaneously. The restaurant was rammed with a party of 20+, other full tables of 6 or more & people upstairs. I do not understand how, regardless of how full the venue is, Franco & his team always manage to deliver a welcoming, engaging & efficient service, mouth-wateringly delicious food, good house wines, excellent value for money, at comfortable, crisply linen covered tables, & all in a warm, fuzzy ambience which stays with you all the way home. While Bridgend Country is well serviced with eateries, Il Vecchio is an exceptional restaurant – in my view the best & most consistent in the whole area, including the Vale & the major cities. I was dismayed to see Franco’s post regarding the fragile future of his business - & that of other independent venues – due to the dramatic rises in fuel & supply costs; if we lose the likes of Il Vecchio, our lives will be very much poorer. It’s down to our government & the Welsh Assembly to support these good local businesses, or we’ll all be living on American pizza & burgers!

Have had the opportunity to eat in a good variety of places in my time and very few have been better than this in terms of hospitality or food. I genuinely came away feeling overwhelmed. The cuisine was outstanding. Goats cheese salad, despite being a simple dish, was full of flavour and arrived with a complimentary pizza. Our group of 4 all had pasta dishes (2 x scallops, 1 x salmon, 1 x beef) and were unanimous in our opinions that this was without doubt the best pasta each of us had had. The staff were friendly and attentive. Franco was the quintessential host. Genuinely friendly and engaging. There have been few occasions that I have felt this welcome. I would be genuinely tempted to make a return journey to Bridgend from Suffolk just to dine here again. Fabulous.

This is my third visit to this fantastic restaurant and again the food, drink and atmosphere was exceptional. I went with my sister and our friend. Great welcome from Franco and the meal was gorgeous. We had the set 2 course lunch, bargain at £14.95. House wine was a good price. We were given a freebie of garlic bread and we all enjoyed the starters and mains. I had the goats cheese followed by the mushroom ravioli, these were delicious. We asked for limoncello for 2 but were given the limoncello dessert instead. We explained the mix up to the waiter who said it wasn’t a problem. We ate the desserts and found them light and refreshing, although we hadn’t ordered it!!! When we had the bill they hadn’t charged us for the desserts. What exceptional customer service. I live in Swansea and I wish they was a local restaurant like Franco’s here. Thank you Franco for a wonderful dining experience.

Look out for a little place Il Vicchio on Queen Street,as you won't get anywhere with the name Fanko's! Once you find it though the effort is totally worth it. Exactly the warm welcome you'd like at a restaurant but don't get anywhere else, Franko is the epitome of friendliness and charm that I like in a restauranteur. His food delivers too. My greatest delight as a gluten intolerant was to be served a small dish of tasty salad whilst everyone ate the delicious looking garlic bread given as an entrée. Usually I have to sit there, hungry and envious so this gesture was hugely appreciated. My seafood risotto was so packed full of squid there was something fishy in every mouthful. My fellow diners enjoyed their sea bass and lamb cutlets too. Desserts were apparently very good too, just would be nice to see something gluten and dairy free because I still have a sweet tooth despite my body's idiosyncrasies. Thank you all at Franko's!

Great atmosphere even though it was lunch time brilliant staff and great food . Will be back again the menu was very different lots of Italian food I had never seen , the drinks were really reasonable especially the Italian cider and because I asked about how they made my starter they gave me one to take home in a plastic box. Even had a free drink because they had forgotten about it brilliant restaurant

We are frequent visitors to Franco's and this is due to one simple reason - the food. The food never disappoints, always freshly prepared and beautifully presented. Franco and his staff are beyond attentive and every visit is an absolute pleasure. This evening I had scallops to start and they were cooked to perfection, melt in the mouth succulence - divine. If you want to enjoy authentic Italian dishes in a relaxed atmosphere then book a table at Franco's, you won't regret it!

For the first time I was having the pleasure to try food at this restaurant and to be honest, no regret. I was with my girlfriend and a friend. Franco welcomed us in his typical southern Italian way. The best surprise was when he proposed me to try something off the menu, which is linguine with sward fish, olive oil, garlic and cherry tomatoes. It was divine. Last but not least, the service was good too. We will definitely come back again.

Recently went to Franco's for lucnch, fabulous welcome from Franco and his staff. I was gutted as I was looking forward to having Tornado Rossini but it wasn't on the menu in his restaurant. He could see I was disappointed so he asked his chef to make me something very similar. What a wonderful thing for him to do for me. Really enjoyed my meal and also my family really enjoyed theirs as well. We all ordered off the set menu and it was well worth the money. Onlyslight let down was the meals didn't come with any veg, even a few green beans or peas would of been nice. But that would not stop us going again. Franco certainly looks after his customers and makes them feel welome and relaxed. Will definately be back, thank you Franco and his staff
