Yes, I'd eschewed the Crown for food before, as it was assumed it was served in the quaint but rather shabby & overcrowded boozer downstairs. I had also read some previously unflattering reviews of the cuisine. BUT this first time upstairs, I was pleasantly surprised. Fair enough on this Sunday evening, the Opera House crowd were in & we had... More

It is a really cool bar. Not a place for young people. The average age was over fifty, but the décor was great. They have private booths and gas lamp lighting! Very neat. And the beer was not expensive. It is a place that you have to experience for yourself.

Lovely tiling and traditional wooden cubicles. Great to watch the world go by and have a few drinks into the bargain. A gem of a bar

The art-deco tiling is definitely worth seeing, but beyond that . . . nothing much. They make much play of being owned and managed by the National Trust. Owned, maybe, but it is managed as a Nicholson's pub (as are many historic pubs in central London) by our very own Mitchells & Butler. Which means it is well-run, but in... More

Enjoyed a good pint of Guinness in The Crown - settled in one of the original Victorian 'snugs' and admired the decor - stained glass, ornate woodwork and gas lamps give it an authentic atmosphere. Worth a visit.

I was taken along to this pub being told that it is one of the most popular, traditional and famous in the city. This advice was spot on and we enjoyed a very nice couple of hours trying different beers from the usual offerings. Please go when you visit the city you might regret missing it.

Never been in a place as quirky. The decor is amazing with the stained windows, mirrored booths and fancy ceiling. We were lucky enough to get a free booth and ordered our lunch. They have a regular menu but also specialise in sausages. Best sausage and mash meal I have had in ages. The booths are very secluded but there... More
