We have visited the Bourtree often over the last 10 years after shopping (We live 20 miles away) the last year we have seen a downhill decline mainly in staff attitude and poor food presentation,, We experienced 2 bad meals in December 2023, We decided...to give the Bourtree a miss during January 24 learning of other peoples bad experiences re the food...On Monday 12th January we decided to give the Bourtree a try....I ordered Fish n Chips with Mushy peas; my better half had the Steak n Kidney pudding with Potato Mash & Garden Peas...1 regular size Orange Cordial with Fizzy Water...£17.42 p....There were only 4 people sitting at tables so not very busy...The Fish n Chips/Steak n Kidney Pudding arrived after sitting under the heated lamp for some time....The Fish batter was hard/overcooked fish..the chips were Soggy & mushy peas luke warm....The Steak n Kidney pudding was very dry as though it had been heated through many times..the Mash Potato/Garden Peas/Gravy was luke warm...all in all a disgusting meal....Had our fill of the Bourtree now..a lovely venue let down by a poor quality food presentation and bad Management !!!!More

Very poor…. Normally I enjoy weatherspoons but was very disappointed today. Staff were busy having a clear out granted but they left the doors wide open 1 meal was prepared quickly and was left sitting out while awaiting the other meal. With the freezing cold...air coming in my meal was cold when I said to the young guy his response was aw I’m sorry about that I brought them both out together and walked off !!!! No refund offered or free desert to compensate customer service has gone it seems 👎More

The Bourtree is such a lovely building a nice big bar area but with smaller rooms too if you want it a bit quieter. We ordered through the app and drinks came swiftly then ordered curry, fish and chips , mixed grill and a pizza...all served hot and we all agreed the food was both filling and of good quality. Served by friendly staff. I am glad we didn’t read the previous reviews for The Bourtree as I do think it would have put us off visiting which would have been such a shame. We would definitely revisit when in the area again.More

Came to get a quick lunch after swimming with my partner, baby, my sister and her son. Waited 40 minutes for food after which I had to ask where my food was. (My sister was served but she'd ordered separately). The person serving the kitchen...food didn't know what I'd ordered because it had dropped off the screen but the 3 plates of food were sitting at the pass ready to go - no one seemed to question this. We eventually got the plates of food by which point it was freezing cold. I hav been here before and don't believe it was terribly busy, there were plenty empty tables. The kitchen staff didn't care to help the server who simply told him "that should've been away ages ago". Complete shambles and won't be back to the Hawick Whetherspoons chain due to the service completely letting them down.More

Yet again another rubbish meal at spoons. Never enough staff. The management need fired as they don't care. Always get drinks late and food is rubbish. Would be better burning a 20 pound note then going in here. Don't waste ur time and money

I went there a few weeks ago in November with my mother early on a Saturday. We ordered a chips and a chicken burger and when we told our order to the waitress she lunged at my mother. Me and a few other guests had...to rip the waitress off my elderly mother who was screaming at the time. My mother ended up suffering from a broken ribcage and spinal cord injury and is unlikely going to walk again. 6/10.More

Truly disgusting attitude by this morning's shift advisor, our eggs were overcooked, solid lumps and hash browns solid. When hubby asked him to wait, he walked off and ignored him, then when called back, he was told ( shouted across the whole bar) there was...nothing wrong with his eggs. Hubby told him if that was his attitude we'd never be back. He said fine then. Customer service is about managing your customers expectations, is it really so hard to fry a decent runny nice looking egg, on a very quiet Sunday morning as per the photos on the menu? Yes he has had to send them back more than once. The answer is simple enjoy someone who can cook an eggMore

This place has gone down hill over the years. The food arrived luke warm at best. Saw several others complaining. The manager was quick to offer a replacement jacket potato. which after I complained it was cold, I waited ages for a new one. The...manager kept asking where it was. I heard the woman in the kitchen say to microwave it again as the chilli wasn’t warmed up. When it arrive it was volcanic hot and got harder as it cooled. Wish I hadn’t bothered. The lady in the kitchen was shouting out the orders so loud that people were commenting across the room. We left very underwhelmed and to be honest I wish I had cooked at home even though we had fancied a night without washing up. Hawick really is missing somewhere that does good pub grub. This was poor even by Wetherspoons standards.More

Typical Spoons , a beautiful building which I think was a club or manufacturer establishment. Very light and airy with the sun roof. Very well laid out and various rooms. The staff were very friendly and the waitress worked herself into the ground running back...and forwards. Normal menu which was very good and served with a smile. Would definitely return.More

Very much what you would expect from a Spoons-esque establishment. Situated on Bourtree Place and converted from an old Conservative Club, this elegant building houses a variety of ‘Draughts / Lagers’ for a very reasonable price. We ordered our meals (with a free drink obviously)...and they were brought out in good time. The use of the app of course aided in us moving as little as possible, conserving our energy for the labyrinth that was the loo hunt. We happily sat at our table for a few hours (pre-booked as it was a Six Nations Saturday) and to be honest, we could have spent most the day here. I personally felt very relaxed and the bank balance wasn’t taking too much of a hit. I’d definitely allocate the place into the ‘first pub’ bracket - one to get a few before exploring elsewhere. As an inexperienced Hawick drinker, normally sticking to my roots in Selkirk, I was pleasantly surprised by the standard of drinking establishments and this was a great opener! Recommended by me - cheap and cheerful with welcoming staff.More

Kerry, you obviously never read my first complaint or manager reply. Also I mentioned in complaint you commented on that the "burgers were overcooked twice", which might have indicated that we did complain. We pointed out... More
