Love this place. Have been going for years . Small, and maybe in need of a redecoration, but the food is amazing, the prices are great and I look forward to popping in whenever I get the chance!

We were grabbing a quick bit in between Fringe shows and this place is fast and cheap (1 falafel wrap, 1 doner wrap and a iron bru for a tenner). The food is alright - cheap and cheerful, but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here.

The Palmyra may look a bit tatty on the surface but don't let that put you off, these guys serve the best kebabs in Edinburgh. The sauces they use are delicious creating a fantastic overall flavour. Prices are very reasonable.

Stopped here early evening between Fringe shows as we only had about 1 hour to spare. The felafel sandwiches were amazing. Quick fresh food at a very reasonable price.

We stopped to try their shawarma wraps for lunch. It was nearly double the price to eat in so we opted for takeaway and ate in the little square opposite. The food was of great quality and really tasty.

Hummus was a bit thin. Sheesh kebab small in portion and tough for £8. Avoid this place - no real redeeming quality to speak off. Has no lamb schwarma.

They will never disappoint you. I used to come here every week either for non complicated lunch or the classic kebab after drinks. Really nice staff. Go for the mix donner kebab + hummus falafel + tap water. Brilliant.

Reasonably priced and good quality food. The kebab was wonderful with hot sauce and the staff were polite. Only downside is that there isn't that much space if it becomes busy.

Staying in Southside & Holyrood

Neighbourhood Profile
Southside & Holyrood
Many of Edinburgh’s student hangouts gather around university buildings in Southside, the sort of neighbourhood that supports a long string of second-hand shops and eateries serving ethnic food for just a few pounds. In August the student population is replaced by vast numbers of boisterous visitors here for the Fringe, Edinburgh’s world-class comedy and arts festival which headquarters itself here. Flanking Southside are two great parks. The Meadows is a vast flat and sporty space where football, rugby, tennis, cricket, croquet, and golf often all take place side by side. Kids in its big playgrounds add to the joyful noise. Far bigger and much wilder, Holyrood Park extends to the east and provides a real hike up Arthur’s Seat, but the district is best known as the site of Scotland’s Parliament and its premier Royal Palace—and their steady stream of sightseers.
