The staff were really friendly and welcoming. It is an average Nicholson's pub but the food, service and drinks were of good quality. One thing to note - they don't allow kids unless you are having meals but they politely explained this to anyone not...More

We just wanted drinks. Walked in with children, sat down, perused the menu. Husband went up to order. Was told no drinks without food. OK - he returned to the table and we decided we'd share some starters. However, apparently this doesn't qualify to order...More

Really good traditional food that is tasty and very reasonably priced. A good choice of food and deserts make sit difficult to choose, but whatever your choice is you won't be disappointed. The pub also has a lot of history to add to the dining...More

We had the shared starter of fish platter, cod goujons, calamari, scampi and haddock kedgeree fish cakes with dips and lettuce garnish, yummy. Hubby then had the pulled lamb with haggis, his first choice of steak and mushroom pie unavailable. In fact there were a...More

Quaint pub with historic feel. Reasonable prices friendly staff and excellent pub food would recommend the pies. Gets very busy so might have to wait for a table

Went here for lunch after climbing up to Arthur's Seat. It was fine but nothing special. From the outside it looks like a very traditional pub but the interior is now rather bland with a false ceiling and the old fireplace tiled over. It was...More

The story of Bobby and the history of this place are a nice feature. I thought the food was just okay. They didn't have the first item on the menu that I ordered and so I ordered a fish pie. It basically tasted like mashed...More

My travel companion and I ate here twice during our stay in Edinburgh - the first time the place was packed for lunches, the second mid-week visit was less busy. Both times, though, the service was very attentive and the food was excellent.

Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its
