Went to this place on a groupon. It is clear why they have to get customers through Groupon. Poor service, poor food and expensive drinks. There is nothing I can recommend about Maxies and there are surely much better places in the city.

Our party of six enjoyed a delicious meal and wonderful service from Karen. Delightful Scottish decor, too. I'd love to go back again!

Myself and my girlfriend were in the lovely City of Edinburgh for a long weekend, and decided to have a few drinks here, in what is a prime location. After sitting and trying to catch the eye of the waiting staff (who were serving people...More

Down the stair off the Royal Mile is the gem called Maxie’s. Charming atmosphere, an outdoor patio and great service. Everything we tried was delicious. On this visit we had the fried Brie and prawn salad starters. We tried the haggis stuffed chicken breast with...More

Situated overlooking Victoria Street (if you sit outside) Maxies is a recommended visit if you're after a taste of Scotland (other food items widely available too, but I had the haggis, neeps and tatties, which is the first image). We didn't plan to visit here...More

Ate here last year on the recommendation of a friend and yet again I was forced to attend here again last week. Nothing has changed, the interior is still drab and disgusting and even the 'daily' specials/hot drinks/alcoholic drinks boards were still the same. If...More

Unfortunately this was an awful choice but we were very hungry and couldn't get in anywhere else. Staff were really friendly and happy for us to change tables when we couldn't fit into the table as it was very squashed. Our table of 6 all...More

Not great! One of the least enjoyable meals I have eaten. Overpriced menu and wine list . Mains disappointing and the worst mash potato I have ever tasted. Restaurant tired and shabby which is a shame given its prime position. Came out smelling like a...More

Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its
labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests
this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly
visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers
that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the
place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as
the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal
