Went to Maxies for Dinner tonight and had the nights specialty Tomato and herb soup and fish and chips. The food was excellent. The soup was full bodied home made Tomato soup and the fish was very lightly battered white fish and chips. The Terrace...More

I got addicted to Maxie's. You could almost miss it on Johnston Terrace as the entrance passage leads downstairs about 2 floors into a multi roomed eaterie with old stone walls that must go back a few centuries. However there was another entrance from the...More

We were here on Saturday 5th August during Edinburgh Fringe and it was very busy indeed. Despite this the staff were friendly and helpful and the food was FANTASTIC. I had the hot seafood platter which was probably the best food I have had in...More

Maxies was on the way headed towards the Grass Market after a long day touring EB Castle. They have a lovely balcony patio overlooking Victoria Street. We opted for the cozy inside on this hot day and enjoyed comfortable seats to get a bite to...More

Sitting out on the back terrace on a sunny day should make this one of Edinburgh's prime locations for a nice drink. However, the drinks selection is poor and the prices are steep. I ordered an innes&gun IPA and was presented with a can and...More

What a find, friendly staff and great food at a reasonable price. Would recommend the spicy stir fried prawns followed by apple pie, delicious. We would certainly go back on our next visit to Edinburgh.

We weren't overly impressed with the food or the restaurant but we weren't dissatisfied either. The food was good and not too expensive.

We love to come to this restaurant each time we are in Edinburgh, very cosy place, nice atmosphere. Food and service are just perfect, very good value for money!

Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its
labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests
this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly
visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers
that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the
place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as
the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal
Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the
