Let me state the obvious before getting started. When anybody goes out for dinner we all look for the same thing. We look to be surprised, challenged and left feeling satisfied. Cucina surprised us, this little gem tucked in both above the hotel or through a beautiful cobblestone alleyway is honestly wonderfull. The fit-out is elegant and beautiful. The staff... More

Cucina is in the G&V, a five-star hotel. The included breakfast is served at Cucina, and is outstanding: anything and everything you would want is served. The service is excellent, the atmosphere is very nice and ALL of the food is nicely presented, fresh and delicious.

Firstly a huge thank you to all of the staff that attended us on May 6th, you were all wonderful and brought a lovely end to our special day. From my recollection there was only one issue that was corrected within minutes of it being raised. Overall a fantastic experience, wonderfully attentive staff and out of this world food. Our... Staff incredibly attentive and offered suggestion for wine choice which was beautiful. Great food selection, spoilt for choice, when we finally decided we were not disappointed. We all ate differently and all thoroughly enjoyed our food. Beautifully fresh ingredients and managed to squeeze in pudding too.

Three of us dined here on a Saturday evening. We each had three courses and not one of us was disappointed. The food was delicious and the interior has quite a glamorous feel. The service was initially attentive, helpful and professional. This is by no means a cheap place - it is at the upper end - but you do... More

Fantastic service, very attentive, friendly and helpful. Food was delicious and could not fault it, reasonably priced for the high standard, shame we didn't have time to stay for dessert!! Best risotto and linguine we've ever had.

We were welcomed like royalty and service throughout the evening was just perfect. Our waitress easily managed our large group getting every meal right, giving everyone the appropriate cutlery at the right time and seamlessly providing each of us with an individual drinks bill at the end. And she smiled throughout. The food was lovely too but what made the... More

Lovely, stylish restaurant. Really loved the decor. Very friendly welcoming staff. Menu had a good variety to choose from and was reasonably priced. The only negatives were that our food wasn't piping hot it was warm, however it was very tasty. The staff were a bit too attentive and at times we felt hounded by questions. They also were too quick... More

Had breakfast here two mornings (included with room). There was a side buffet included with all hot menu entrees. It consisted of smoked meats, cheeses, fruits, granolas, cereals, pastries and juices. Great service and food quality.

Last night we dined at cucina, the Italian restaurant which is part of the G&V, (previously Missoni for all those seasoned travellers). Very disappointed to say the least is an understatement. If you're a hard core Italian/ pasta fan, starters should/will suit but nothing took our fancy, we simply ordered breads which were gorgeous, sun blush tomato and pumpkin seed,... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
