Stopped in for a quick bite and found this a nice place to sit down for a bite. It was nothing special, but nothing wrong either. Very clean and relaxing meal. Food was just ok - just a good locsal pub on the royal mile.

Came here for dinner one night and my partner and I were not disappointed. The food was brilliant, the range of ales was great and the service was spot on, I would highly recommend this place

I stopped in for a quick beer, went back for dinner and returned again the next night for a flight of whiskey. The surroundings, staff and food made me feel at home. For starters i had the Cullen Skink soup - a particularly flavorful fish and leek soup which is on my list to make when i get home. My... More

Popped in a couple of times for a pint but never eaten in here. Great selection of beers and spirits etc. Nice well kept beer, quick friendly service in really nice traditional pub surroundings.

Called in here on Saturday afternoon having spotted the gluten free fish and chips on the menu. Really friendly little place, and a good al round menu. The gluten free fish and chips were lovely, as were the chicken wings. Service was quick, the food was piping hot and the price was very acceptable for pub located right in th... More

Although the service was incredibly slow, the food was great. Atmosphere was worth a visit in itself.

Nice pub on the lower part of the Royal Mile at St. Mary's Street. Relaxing comfortable atmosphere and friendly staff. I stopped here for a drink and did not order food, although the menu had a good variety and was reasonably priced. Good place to stop as you wander down the Royal Mile.

We often stay at the Travelodge on St Mary's St and this is right beside it. Nice clean pub with good selection of beers. Decent food too and great service. We'll continue to call in when staying on the Royal Mile.

This is the kind of place that locals as well as tourists like. Don't miss the Cullen Skink or the Haggis Burger. Loved the old pub style and location on the Royal Mile.

Just had arrived in from London after a long train ride. We consulted TripAdvisor and found this close by pub. The Cullen skink and haggis tower entrees were excellent and the burgers well cooked and simple. Good selection of beers and a charming Waitress from NZ rounded off a great evening.

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
