Staff were very attentive. Food was good. Lots of choice. Nice decor and clean looking. Centrally located for that end of town. Will happily return.

Saturday afternoon, post rugby international food. The food was very good, the service was excellent. Prices are reasonable - not excessive but fair value. My daughter dropped a pair of gloves - one of the employees ran half way to Princes Street to catch us up and return them - above and beyond the call of duty.

They had empty tables but all they wanted to do was rush us out of the restaurant and it was only mid-afternoon. I still had food on my plate I was eating and they tried to take the plate away. Very disappointed as this place used to be good.

Service was good, very attentive staff. The food however was average at best. Ordered a king prawn curry, it was £15, contained 5 prawns and mostly potatoes. Not the best value. The aloo gobi was also mostly potato with perhaps 4/5 pieces of cauliflower. Maybe I ordered the wrong dishes but on this experience I won't be making a bee... More

I havent been to a friendlier restaurant in Edinburgh and the food is great - if its busy staff dont have time to linger but the owner/managers make you feel very welcome. Great choice and good prices. Book ahead as it can be busy.

Was staying just down the road at the Hilton so had a 100 yard walk to revisit a restaurant I haven't been to for 30 years. Was very pleasantly surprised. Decor was modern, service excellent and the menu extremely varied with all of the usual dishes but a large selection of main courses that I've never seen on any other... More

The Omar Khayyam is situated in the West End of the city about 10 mins walk from Princes Street opposite the Haymarket pub and is well established on the Edinburgh restaurant scene with a consistently good reputation. I ate here on a Saturday night with friends and we were quickly seated with menus with our orders taken within 10 minutes.... More

My friend and I just happened to stumble upon this restaurant while sheltering from rain! We decides to eat here, the service was quick and polite. The food was amazing, certainly one of those best Indian meals I have ever had. The price was excellent, worked out at £40 for two alcoholic drinks, poppadoms & pickle tray, two main dishes... More

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
