Myself and a group of friends came here for lunch late last year and were delighted to find the set lunch menu was very reasonably priced.. often these set lunch menu's can be very average in quality due to them cutting costs, however our two amuse bouches and high quality three courses were all phenomenal! The highlight was the main... More

Booked a table for my husbands birthday, have had lunch here before but this was first visit for dinner. This visit was fabulous from begining to end. We arrived at the table to find a birthday card for my husband. Had surprise land and sea tasting menu, starting with the canapes which incuded the surprise ceasar salad canape which is... More

This is still the creme de la creme of dining in Edinburgh, but personally I'm getting a little fed up with tricksy food. Lots of courses with hidden surprises, start to become predictable after time and although the flavours are exquisite and the cooking first class, I think this story has been well and truly told. As you would expect,... More

A fair few, high end restaurants have lunch menus which appear, on the surface, similar to this but don't always deliver this well. Canapes and amuse bouches are often just for show - not here. They were quirky and for the most part delicious. Our starters and main courses were all really beautiful. Desserts on the lunch menu were very... More

My wife and I were spending a weekend in Edinburgh to celebrate our tenth anniversary, and to celebrate decided we wanted a nice meal. After much research we decided that we liked the look of the Lunch Menu at Castle Terrace Restaurant. I'm not going to go into a blow by blow account of each course, but speaking as someone... More

We dined here for lunch and had the set lunch, it was divine. From the wonderful canapes as we waited to be seated to the lunch itself, the food was fabulous! The staff were all very attentive, nothing was too much trouble and they certainly looked after us very well. Highly recommend a visit.

Had a great experience going through the tasting menu, unfortunately post the meal something had not agreed with me leading to a rather "uncomfortable" night. Upon informing the restaurant we received a rather haughty reply. A little bit of humility / civility tends too go a long way, unfortunately this restaurant does not seem to have any on the menu

So, on this my first trip to Edinburgh I knew I had to try here as so many people have recommended it. And I now understand why. My first hint is to book in advance - you would in an exclusive London restaurant, and you should here too. You can do this on line and you use a credit card... More

My boyfriend and I had a set lunch at Castle Terrace recently. Staff were absolutely exceptional, very polite and attentive. I was recommended a very usual gin which was fabulous. As a vegetarian, I was thrilled when presented with a vegetarian menu. However, the amuse bouche, starter and main course i received can only be described as beige. The food... More

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
