This is the place in Edinburgh that I am constantly dragging my friends to and am amazed they've never heard of! This place is fantastic. They are easily priced, they do some of the best pizza in Edinburgh, and the staff are lovely. My go to meal is the margherita pizza but have also been impressed by their bolognese and... More

We arrived without booking and the dining area was full so we were shown to the bar stools in the waiting area and immediately given a menu and a short while later asked if we wanted drinks. After receiving the drinks around 10 minutes later we were taken to the table. The food was decent quality and good value I... More

The title says it all really. On our last morning in Edinburgh before getting the train home later in the day, we fancied something filling before tackling Calton Hill. Would definitely come again.

I had a little time spare before the theatre and went in here because it was near the Playhouse. I only had a coffee - espresso with a glass of water on the side, but it was perfectly acceptable. The place was very busy, so it must be popular. I had a look at the menu and it looked OK.

Down to see Rugby at Murrayfield on the Saturday, but did not have breakfast in Hotel. Instead took up a recommendation that I should have "a very good breakfast with great coffee" at a Taste of Italy restaraunt near to the theater . We had the full Scottish breakfast with orange juice and coffee as well, restaraunt was busy on... More

We were asked to take a seat which we did near the door, after that no one appeared to take our order so we walked out, and it wasn't even busy. Will not be back.

We are very sorry for your poor experience with us. As the bar is very near the seat mentioned a quick hello at the bar would have had our team over to you asap. It is not in our nature to leave our guests to sit without a menu. Again we are very sorry and hope you will forgive the... More

I come here regularly and have never been disappointed. The food, service and value are second to none and I always enjoy myself whenever I dine here. The pasta dishes are particularly fine. Thank you!

We do our best to create great dishes at a great price. The portions are excellent and the bill is small. Taste is the prefect location for pre or post theatre or cinema outings. Reservations are not allowed, just pop in and one of our fabulous servers will find you a table. Angela Crolla More

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
