Came upon this restaurant by accident & glad we did. Food was lovely. Staff were nice & friendly but a little harrassed due to the kitchen being short handed. Food was still out in good time though. Will definitely be back on our next visit to Edinburgh 😊

We met a group of friends here on Saturday night. The food was a real let down. The minestrone soup was watery and bland, the bruschetta was a small dry round piece of baguette with a few chopped up bits of tomato. The potato skins were like none I had ever seen before. Small flat round discs of potato peel?... More

Lovely restaurant. Have visited in the past and so glad I did again! A warm welcome - the waiter recommended a steak from the blackboard - so very glad he did, cooked to perfection and probably one of the best steaks I've ever had! The other half got a pasta dish which she said was "amazing" Limoncello to finish on!... More

There's a good reason why La Lantena is still around when many other restaurants in Edinburgh are not - good traditional Italian cooking at reasonable prices. I've been coming here for a good number of years and the pasta never disappoints. Friendly and attentive waiting staff add to the experience. Not a large restaurant so remember to book as I've... Where do i start? I tried phoning the restaurant numerous times to book a table no answer, then got through unfortunately they was booked up for that night (Saturday) and to my delight they had a table for us the night after (Sunday) i don't know if it was due to being a Sunday night or the food was that... Visited for Friday dinning. We ordered, pizza, lasagna, tortelini, and mozzarella-tomato. Pizza was almost uncooked. Raw mushrooms, terrible tomato salsa. Pesto was not homemade, and apart from that, the quality was terrible. Lasagna was the worst dish. Microwaved and no meat in bolognese sause at all. Tasteless food in general. Good service though.

Is the la lanterna in new hands? Been a few times before and food was excellent. We had a overnight stay in Edinburgh last week and decided to have a meal there..spaghetti marinara was tasteless , steak very bland and overall the food was awful. Oh and the heating was not working and the place was freezing. We won't be... More

Really nice place to come for food! We came midweek so wasn't too busy but not sure what it is like for a weekend. Food was reasonably priced and service was good.

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
