You dont have to travel to Spain to enjoy authentic flavours of Andalusia. Excelent tapas, wines and cheeses thanks to three enterprising lads from Seville. So be adventurous and have a change from your traditional Scottish dishes. Manolo, Carlos and Pedro will give you a great taste of Spain right on your doorstep. Y si de otra parte echeis de... More

the staff were really helpful, able to explain all aspects of the menu that I wasn't quite sure of. As for the food I can't recall many meals being better than the one I had here.

Found this restaurant through our son, who lives nearby and who had discovered this already. Would not have expected such a fine place in this neighbourhood. Very friendly service, personal treatment. Quite a small place, which makes it cozy and comfortable. You have the feeling that you're at home at the owner's place. Excellent food, we took a selection of... More

Found this restaurant via Trip Advisor and weren't disappointed would agree with the high praise and good reviews. Relaxed, informal and comfortable. Waiter was very attentive and knowledgeable giving us suggestions and helping a normal French wine drinker to pick a nice Spanish wine! Mushroom croquettes were amazing! Will definitely return with family and friends, thank you!

Last time we visited El Quijote it was in March and it was pretty chilly outside and they only had a fan heater - luckily it was next to our table so we were warm enough and enjoyed our meal. Tapas was all very tasty and service good too.

Visited recently with friends. Ordered a mountain of food and loads of wine. Staff were friendly, knowledgeable and made wine & food recommendations. Food was served gradually (we'd ordered a lot so this was good) and was fab. Traditional Spanish food, wine and service. Would definitely recommend.

I need to start this review with a confession : in my haste in looking for a restaurant before going to the Kings Theatre, my family fancied eating Mexican and I booked a table at El Quijote. My mistake as El Quijote is a Spanish restaurant and there is a difference when it comes to cuisine. El Quijote is a... More

Great food and a fantastic bustling atmosphere situated in the Tollcross area of Edinburgh about 15-20 mins walk from the West End of Princes and up Lothian Road. This is a small restaurant and therefore advisable to book in advance. This restaurant is not part of a chain. The menu is varied and different and the food was well cooked... More

Went here last week with a group of friends. We ordered a variety of dishes, all Tapas size. We probably should have ordered the medium or larger portions as some in our party left the restaurant hungry. We ordered the chorizo, cheese, garlic prawns, pork cheek, calamari and patatas bravas, of which the patatas were the best dish. Would probably... More

Staying in Southside & Holyrood

Neighbourhood Profile
Southside & Holyrood
Many of Edinburgh’s student hangouts gather around university buildings in Southside, the sort of neighbourhood that supports a long string of second-hand shops and eateries serving ethnic food for just a few pounds. In August the student population is replaced by vast numbers of boisterous visitors here for the Fringe, Edinburgh’s world-class comedy and arts festival which headquarters itself here. Flanking Southside are two great parks. The Meadows is a vast flat and sporty space where football, rugby, tennis, cricket, croquet, and golf often all take place side by side. Kids in its big playgrounds add to the joyful noise. Far bigger and much wilder, Holyrood Park extends to the east and provides a real hike up Arthur’s Seat, but the district is best known as the site of Scotland’s Parliament and its premier Royal Palace—and their steady stream of sightseers.
