We visited on Tuesday night, and the place was semi-full(we were expecting more people). We really enjoyed our dinner- my wife has the sea food spaghetti and I had the wild boar ravioli. Both were so tasty. Neither of us are wine experts, so we randomly picked two, and both really complimented our food well. Definitely would visit again next... More

This review covers two visits, the wife and I had such a great meal that we decided to come back the following night. They have a good selection of wines that are reasonably priced. The Gavi di Gavi was delightful and paired well with the caprese salad and veal. The bruschetta starter was awesome and obviously made with high end... More

Nice little restaurant on Lothian Rd. Lovely Italian meal. Initially thought service was slightly off, but warmed up significantly. Would definitely come back.

Went here on a whim. Fantastic family run restaurant, very welcoming. Staff were helpful, moved us to a better table and accommodated our request to have some time between the main and dessert. The food? Simply superb. Both had the black ravioli special which was delicious. Well recommended by the waitress. Nice rustic place, family owned local business, great food.... More

My brother booked this restaurant to celebrate our last night/Mum's 60th in Edinburgh (12/04/17) As we were waiting for our table, we got speaking to two ladies. They said that everything on the menu was good and we took their word for it as they had been coming to Frizzante since the 1990's! Once we sat down, we were served... More

We booked for a pre-theatre dinner and went along at 5:30pm. We were swiftly greeted and shown to our seats and given menus. The waitress advised us on the specials. Service was very quick, almost too quick as we had allowed plenty of time. My starter was a small portion but others were bigger. Maybe I chose the wrong thing.... More

Our family of four traveling from the US dined at this amazing family-owned restaurant our last 2 nights in Edinburgh. Our first night we had pizzas that were impossibly thin and crispy, and we were so impressed we came back the next night for pasta - wonderfully fresh and delicious. And our server was an absolute delight. Not only excellent... More

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
