We arrived here as a party of 5 and from start to finish the 'meal', if it could even be called that was horrendous. Firstly, we were seated at a table where two of the seats backed on to a main thoroughfare, naturally this was uncomfortable for 2 of the party as their seats were knocked with each passing server... Me and my partner went hoping they still served the deep dish pizzas, sadly the restaurant had a new menu. Luckily enough Ivan was very accommodating along with the kitchen staff to make us one anyway. It was delicious and made my day, we also had the wings, homemade pretzels which were amazing.

First time in Edinburgh and first meal out. Went because it looked busy so hoping for typical chain restaurant food after quickly establishing that this is what it is. Part of a chain. Was made to wait 40 minutes for a table and I suspect having seen plenty of empty ones when taken to my seat, that this was to... More

I have only eaten here for evening meals, usually before a ghost walk. I have always found the staff friendly and helpful, very good selection on the menu for reasonable prices and the food itself has always been excellent. It speaks for itself that every time I've been it's been quite busy. So if your in the vicinity and don't... More

After several hours visiting Edinburgh Castle I needed food, the sooner the better. Having wandered down the Royal mile I found the Filling Station, an American restaurant, simular to F and B's. I was not dissapointed. I felt some of the dishes were a bit on the expensive side but ordered the cajun chicken wrap and chips (£11) and it... More

Chose to call in here after a full day in beautiful Edinburgh, 5 adults and a toddler. It was very busy but they got us seated which was great! The starters were ok, but none of the main courses were of a good standard. Pizza dry and hard, little topping. Nachos were mediocre. Three of us wanted fish and chips... More

My family wasn't fond of this restaurant. Went in for breakfast. The corn cakes were tough and tasteless. My son found a plastic wrapper on his pancakes-- were they not freshly made???? Not sure.

Visited the filling station Saturday evening. Met at the door by a very friendly girl asked where we would like to sit unlike some places where they try to tell you where to sit. Ordered drinks which came quickly both had cocktails which were lovely. Our waitress Pam was lovely and helpful food was excellent. A great atmosphere and a... More

Lovely little restaurant and bar on the royal mile. Close to the castle and St Giles. We stopped here in the evening for cocktails only having the pretzel nibbles with garlic dip which was delicious

Description
Filling Station coast to coast American restaurant and bar, has been created by a team of people who genuinely love good quality food, drinks and good times! No doubt you're thinking, well doesn't everybody want that? It's true many people do, but we have genuinely struggled to find somewhere that actually delivers all of these things. So our solution was simple - let's do it ourselves, the result is Filling Station.

When it's cooked well using fabulous ingredients, nothing beats authentic American food. Very few can resist a cocktail mixed by a real bartender who knows exactly how to blend flavours to achieve a perfect balance of strong, weak, sharp and sweet

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
