Fabulous location, fabulous food a real treat for a top notch, reasonably priced lunch. Had the salmon cerviche to start and then roast beef - delicious. Enjoyed wandering in the grounds afterwards very relaxing and very delicious.

We really enjoyed our dinner at Rhubarb. The dining room is very impressive, and quite unique in Edinburgh. Black candles and dark Cala lillies on the table add to the atmosphere created, and you definitely get the feeling of being somewhere old and very opulent!...More

First visit to Rhubarb and not sure if i would go back. Had it not been for the fab company the food itself was not memorable at all. Limited lunch menu . service slow

Fantastic grounds and a handsome hotel, good service. The dinning room we were taken to felt over crowed with tables and people, that hit me as the first impression on entering but once we were seated it felt a bit better. The wine menu is...More

After reading the reviews and friends telling us how great it was we sampled dinner at Rhubarb a week ago. Unfortunately, it turned out to be quite a disappointment in that the 'zizz' we were expecting from the food/ambience/service just never quite materialised. The menu...More

I've visited Rhubarb a number of times over the years and always found the food excellent. This latest visit was no exception in that respect, but I think this time the restaurant had over stretched themselves by overbooking. There were a number of private functions...More

Delightful food. The lamb was well cooked and tasted divine! All servers were wonderfully friendly, and everything was delivered without much delay EXCEPT the desserts, which for some reason took near to 20 minutes for a cheese board and a brownie to come? I would...More

I won't bark on. Most importantly, the food is AMAZING. Cooked to perfect. Served with a smile and in style. This place is a real treat. Pretty pricey but high quality. My issue....I eat lots and the portions are pretty small. Gorgeous taste and presentation...More

Table of 6 Saturday 20th May. Food, Service, Surroundings all outstanding. Could not find a fault in anything during our 'experience'.

We went at lunch time, so it was quite informal. Perhaps you could phone to ask - they are very helpful.
Me and my partner are due to come here in 2 weeks time. Heard its very posh so was just asking if there is a specific dress code for evening meal? Any info would be great thanks

Hi there, I agree with the previous reply which said smart casual is totally acceptable. But the style and elegance of the hotel means you can dress up to and not look out of place.

Minimalists and speed-eaters, avert your eyes. Rhubarb has arrived in all its opulent, theatrical, lingering glory. Set in twenty acres of gorgeous parkland yet a short drive from the Royal Mile, Rhubarb and its hotel home, Prestonfield, are the creation of James Thomson, who bought you the Witchery and Tower restaurants. A black-kilted porter escorts you to Rhubarb's two oval Regency dining rooms decorated in mad baroque splendour, with giant chandeliers, silk wall coverings, and ancestral portraits. The menu, created by chef John McMahon, uses classic techniques and modern inspiration to transform ingredients sourced from small artisan suppliers into sublime grub. Try starter of Gewurztraminer poached foie gras au tronchon with pickled cherries, main course of breast of Loue chicken on tarragon risotto, and top it with the signature assiette of rhubarb desserts. There are more than five hundred wines to choose from, and more than one hundred malts. Linger after your meal in the Leather or Tapestry room and let your senses swoon.
