Stopped here for a light lunch and opted to share a large cheese platter. Good selection of cheeses with crackers and oatcakes. Good service.

We nipped in St Giles cafe for quick coffee, stayed for croissants and bacon roll. Staff were friendly , very Parisian type cafe , coffee was really nice , just the ting for a lazy moochy day start.

terrific porridge, granola, croissants, coffee served by friendly staff. No fault of the owners but too many sadoes ignoring each other while gawping at their cellphones. Atmosphere would be greatly improved by a ban. Get real people and enjoy the food.

I've visited here with my husband a few times and it's become our favourite little place to go for coffee. Really amazed that not only do they do soya milk, but also almond milk! Great stuff! Had a couple of coffees plus some croissants, which came to £10.50, much cheaper than the hotel we stayed at. We like this place... More

I've been here before but just for coffee but on this occasion we had time to stop for something more substantial. The sandwiches (well, hot filled croissants) and soup were very good.

A great place for delicious food. Hidden downstairs in St Giles Cathedral. Can also be accessed by the back of the Cathedral. Has a lovely selection of home cooked food.

I visited this establishment today. I was sat drinking water with two friends. I was told because I was slurring I was drunk. My bipolar medication olanzapine makes me slur. If I were drunk why would I order food and water. I wasn't able to take my medication as they wouldn't allow me to drink my water. I feel I've... More

We cam here for a quick pit stop away from the bustle of the Royal Mile. They have a great selection of drinks and also have almond and soya milk available. It is very well decorated and the staff are nice.

This is a very small cafe so visiting when it's busy makes it quite cramped and noisy - but the food is good and the staff efficient. A lovely place for a quick bite just off the Royal Mile.

Stunning little cafe/bar looks stunning and meets everyone's needs. You can get anything from cake to a long list of whiskey.

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
