During a day trip to Edinburgh, partly for the Christmas markets, we wanted a pub in which we could watch an England v Australia rugby game. The Cambridge Bar was one of those we researched. From the moment we entered the four of us felt right at home. ALL the staff were friendly, welcoming and efficient. We had a discussion... More

After walking my feet off shopping I found myself on Young street and walked by the Cambridge Bar. It was a nice quiet spot for lunch. The service was excellent. The salad with chicken was fresh and tasty. There were a few people at the bar and a few enjoying the sunny window seating. Very nice stop.

I'm not going to lie ... as a native Texan, I was hesitant to embrace a Scottish burger pub. But the food was delicious and drinks on point! I even order "Cajun fries" (chips) almost as a joke, but they were well-spiced and totally satisfying! I had a house-made veggie burger, and it did not disappoint as a burger or... More

I've been here loads of times over the years. I've been straight from work when it's been quiet, for pub lunches at the weekend and also on rugby weekends when you can hardly move. It's a nice atmosphere and the burgers are excellent, especially the buffalo burgers. If you want to eat here though it's definitely best to avoid the... More

This used to be the best place in Edinburgh for burgers with the worst toilets in Edinburgh! After going a few times recently, it is sadly not moved on, with the exception of have nicely renovated toilets - shame they didn't clean up the disgusting, smelly, staircase at the same time as the toilet renovation - what bright spark though... Heard about this place thought we'd give it a go and we weren't disappointed. I ordered the BBQ bacon burger and my vegetarian girlfriend ordered the bean burger with loads of chillies, we also had Cajun fries, onion rings, and loads of dips on the side! Everything was wonderful, and although it didn't look much we were full the rest... More

Its been a while since we were here but they do the most amazing burger. I don't often order a burger in a restaurant as they can be so bad but this is delicious. Such a huge choice of toppings and great fries which can sometimes be a let down elsewhere. Basic decor. Not fancy at all. Staff all very... More

One of the best burgers in Edinburgh. A charming restaurant/bar in a great location. Ideal for casual drinks and dinner.

I was organising a stag do in Edinburgh and having never been I was unsure where to eat. Having had a look at the reviews on here I thought The Cambridge would fit the bill perfectly and I wasn't disappointed! The staff were incredibly patient and welcoming given the size of the group (22)and were helpful with everything we asked.... More

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
