My friends and I like to share a crispy duck dinner in different cities we visit. We liked that you could choose the size - 1/4, 1/2 or whole duck. We started with lovely corn & crab soup and then the 3 of us shared 1/2 duck. The dinner was yummy but even more, the service was excellent. Two waiters... More

I have been here many times before. I have to say that I was not at all impressed with the food offered tonight. It is unlikely that I will be back in a hurry.

Went to Kweilin to meet friends, had not been for years. Well, it was a surprise, the food was far superior to any Chinese food that I have had in Edinburgh for ages. The set lunch has lots of choice and the quality, first rate. Their sea bass dish was exquisite. We all shared the starters like chicken wings and... More

Well, they lacked a bit of a hospitality character. The (Chinese) ambiance was a bit untoward for me. No offer of chinese banquet style. Only an Excecutive banquet at £32.00 per head. If you want range of choices of chinese food. buy at M&S and eat at home.

Great choice on the menu. Piping hot, high quality food. Slightly more expensive than most Chinese restaurants but well worth it

My great aunt & uncle have been visiting this restaurant for longer than I've been alive. So it was chosen for a family meal & no one was disappointed! The food was really excellent with lots of seafood options & the usual classics. 6 of us had starters inc crispy duck, wafer paper prawn, squid, soup, & sui mai. Mains... More

Have had great meals here over the years. The king prawns in Szechuan sauce are off the charts good! In fact, they are spike your napkin good! The king prawns are massive in size and unbelievable in taste! The beer selection is very good with the food. For my tastes, it's a toss up between washing the prawns down with... More

I'd heard a lot about Kweilin - lots of Edinburghers insist it is the best Chinese in town. So, 11 years into my Edinburgh live I finally made it along. And it was decent. Not the best Chinese I've had in town (that honour is still with Chop Chop) but certainly very good. And it is Cantonese - different, more... More

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
