Very good authentic Indian & Bangladeshi food. Family run, inexpensive and quick, polite service. Nice prep and seasoning. Good sign when most of the customers are Indian. Seemed popular with students too. Semi-casual, but clean and well-lighted. Can get a little crowded after 7:00.

What a smashing curry at a great family-run restaurant. Welcoming, helpful staff and super food. We tried all the Scottish-styled curry options and were not disappointed

Favourite curry house in Edinburgh. Reasonably priced and always come away with a smile, staff are fantastic. Love their alternative options too such as veg haggis and irn brhuna!

To put this review in to perspective, we live close to the curry capital of Bradford and visit the curry mile in Manchester on a regular basis. My husband & his family are one of the UKs leading wholesalers of products and packaging to the restaurant and takeaway trade and so he is familiar with the tricks of the trade... More

I visited Kismot before the theatre with my boyfriend on Saturday evening. This restaurant has a great atmosphere and the staff are absolutely lovely. I had a lamb protein passanda and my boyfriend decided to try the Ironbruna, both were really delicious and we will definitely be coming back next time we are Edinburgh. This is a great family run... It would be boring of us to try to outshine the thousands of positive reviews about Kismot. Our simply summary is that the're right! Our experience was extremely positive: great food, prompt service and happy family-run establishment. A busy night after the rugby international at Murrayfield, yet smiles were all around! The only shame being that we had to leave... More

We had a takeaway from here on a Saturday, they open at 5pm and I collected said curries at 5pm( I ordered on Friday)! We have had many delicious meals sit in and takeaway from here and can honestly say I have never been disappointed with the quality of meat and delicious flavours provided by the absolutely brilliant family team... Lovely staff who are very welcoming and helpful. The food was beautiful, one of our party was gluten free and the staff were very knowledgeable and advised what was suitable or not (mist dishes were). Deff worth a visit. It is a bit out of centre of town so if you don't drive you will need a taxi.

My friends and I went here on a Friday night without a booking. There was a great atmosphere in this family owned restaurant. It was rammed but the charming waitress (daughter of chefs) at the front of house looked after us fantastically and managed to squeeze us in a table for three. She was very apologetic for making us wait... More

Staying in Southside & Holyrood

Neighbourhood Profile
Southside & Holyrood
Many of Edinburgh’s student hangouts gather around university buildings in Southside, the sort of neighbourhood that supports a long string of second-hand shops and eateries serving ethnic food for just a few pounds. In August the student population is replaced by vast numbers of boisterous visitors here for the Fringe, Edinburgh’s world-class comedy and arts festival which headquarters itself here. Flanking Southside are two great parks. The Meadows is a vast flat and sporty space where football, rugby, tennis, cricket, croquet, and golf often all take place side by side. Kids in its big playgrounds add to the joyful noise. Far bigger and much wilder, Holyrood Park extends to the east and provides a real hike up Arthur’s Seat, but the district is best known as the site of Scotland’s Parliament and its premier Royal Palace—and their steady stream of sightseers.
