I ordered the T bone steak medium rare and it was cooked to perfection. The home made chips are also fantastic. A few negatives are that you can't book and have to sit and wait for a table. The restaurant is very small as was my table which was unsteady. I'd say the chop and ale is good for steak... More

Visited the Chop and Ale house after an absence of a number of years, due to a previous bad experience. We should have stayed away. Having eaten in both the Restaurant, and the Chop and Ale House, I have a benchmark. The Chop and Ale is resting on its laurels and really needs a reality check. One of the few... More

I have dined here over the last 20 years, generally as a treat, or on a special occasion. The restaurant is famed for its steaks and I have enjoyed many spectacular ones over the years. During my last visit in Feb 2017, the standard of the steaks and the chips wasn't as good. In particular they were excessively charred, so... More

Having decided to go somewhere "a bit nicer" for my birthday dinner, my husband and I ventured out to Chop & Ale House. Upon arriving, the waiter informed us it would be around an hours wait. We were happy to accept this and proceeded to the small waiting room. I ordered a soft drink and my husband ordered a beer... More

Cosy atmosphere, super nice staff and delicious food, not too expensive! We went there twice and always had a good time there. The atmosphere is so amazing and we love the furniture. It is also suitable for vegetarians. I can highly recommend Chop and Ale House!

The best steak i have had so far in Scotland. What a treat, great food and red wine. The service was prompt and subtle, the wine store is a must to visit after your meal too.

We went on a Sunday for birthday treat and were not disappointed. You can't book so we got there for 12:30 to make sure of a table. Service was very good and the food was excellent. The Boerwurst was first class and the others enjoyed the burgers. Two of our party had deserts and they were too big to finish... More

This establishment is located in the heart of the countryside, and is ideal for couples, small groups and walkers. The Chop and Ale House is part of a converted old building owned by Champany, which also features a wine shop with Scottish gifts, and overnight accommodation. We visited for lunch, and as there is a no-booking policy, and the restaurant... More

We went there for lunch and was not disappointed, greeted with a warm friendly service. The food was served quickly and could not fault it. Well done staff for a lovely lunch 😁
