We had a perfect evening in the crocdile restaurant. Service was very good. The dishes were delicious. Over all worth a visit. Only the wine was a little to expansive.More

We have very mixed feelings about this restaurant. First of all, we got an email saying they have a table for us in “salon Monique”. We were excited, imagining a beautiful “salon”. The elegant salon turned out to be place in the entrance, a reception...area, seperated only with a curtain from the main corridor. What is our impression of the restaurant? We have none, we weren’t in the restaurant at all! The only reason we didn’t walk away ist because we knew how difficult was to get another reservation in such short notice. You could hear the telefone, the people coming in, etc… We confronted the manager who told us that they do not have another table, but emphasised that they did communicate we would be seated here. But no one communicated that this is not the restaurant but a hallway with a curtain for 550€ dinner!!! Later on I read some other reviews where they had the same isssue. They are very well aware of this and that’s why I find this fraudulent. Food: it felt bland to be honest. We often go to Michelin restaurants so I would say we know our food. It felt seasoning, presentation and excitement. There was no degustation menu printed out so you don’t know exactly what you are eating. Another issue was that the staff speaks pretty bad english. Attentive, but bad English. They had problems explaining the menu, in a small place no problem, in a * expensive restaurant, a no go. Sometime you just didn’t understand what you have on the plate. The dessert with vanilla and oil was very good and exciting. All in all, for us an expensive disappointment. My only criteria is always the question, would we go back again? And the answer is no, there are better restaurants with better food and where they actually let you to sit in the restaurant!More

Booked this table a month ago for my family. The reservation was confirmed via email with the restaurant. We planned our whole trip around its availability and this reservation. Upon arrival, we were told that we were sitting in the « private room » of...the restaurant, which was a total scam: a room with a pulled curtain right by the entrance of the reception and next to the entrance door. OUTSIDE of the main restaurant. There was no ambiance and we would have been seated right by the coat check room. As a Michelin star place you do not make table arrangements without asking the guests before hand. We were never informed that we d be basically kicked out of the main restaurant to be seated in that “private room”. Totally unacceptable. After rejecting their offer to sit down on that table, We were not offered anything in return as an apology. Of course we left without even sitting down. Really bad behavior from the manager and everyone all around. As someone who has fined dined and stayed in Relais C this was definately a firstMore

Big disappointment. My husband and I eat out often at high end restaurants so are not new to haute cuisine and what that entails. Even so- the price is high for the experience we had. 4 hours to eat dinner. I don't want to be...rushed but that is too slow for 6 courses of two or three bites each. The food was good, not great except for one course. The atmosphere was like being in a church. The waitstaff spoke so low you could barely hear them and it made everyone else speak in very hushed tones. Glancing around the room- and there were only 10 tables, no one seemed to be having a good time. Very little smiles or laughter. We had to wait forever for our wine to be poured so finally when we asked one waiter to pour from our bottle he had to go get someone to do it. He wasn't allowed. There were a lot of waitstaff but they didn't seem coordinated. Never knew if there was one person assigned to our table to oversee us. Then there was a fly that landed in my glass so they gave me a new one but didn't even fill it to where the other one had been, nor comp me a glass. This was our 50th anniversary dinner but they didn't even ask if we were celebrating anything which many restaurants do, but maybe that's just the two and three star restaurants that do that.More

I last reviewed this restaurant in June 2017. It remains a well-respected staple of fine dining in Strasbourg, and my experience last evening confirmed that its 1 Michelin star remains well deserved. The service, from beginning to end, resembled a well choreographed performance --- attentive...servers, plates arriving and departing on perfect queue, etc. The food, as expected, was sublime --- the turbot in particular was a special treat. As always, keep in mind that when consuming a lengthier tasting menu, it is going to take a while to get through all of those dishes --- be prepared for at least 3 hours! Pricing was reasonable for the quality/service. The atmosphere in the restaurant was a little lacking last evening, though that of course could simply be the nature of the groups attending --- this is a highly formal restaurant, and there was no music playing in the background and there are a limited number of tables. Be prepared that it may seem very quiet with hushed whispers from the neighbouring tables --- perhaps this is what people are craving anyways. In the end, a wonderful meal and I certainly recommend making the reservation and giving Au Crocodile a visit. PS. If offered a selection from the cheese trolley, just say 'yes'.More

It’s what you’d expect from a Michelin-star restaurant. However, when I asked for salt for my meat (part of the dégustation menue) the waiter made a face which made me feel like I didn’t know what I was talking about. It’s clear that historically one...doesn’t add salt/pepper whilst eating a chef’s creation, the point of a high-end restaurant, considering the overall aim of pleasing the customers who pay for the expensive meal, is not to make them feel bad when asking for salt for a particular dish. So, irrespective of the historical French attitude, the waiting staff should be better trained to serve international clientele at an establishment whose pretence to be on that kind of level.More

My husband and I chose this restaurant while visiting Strasbourg. We enjoy fine dining but tend to not like “sophisticated” food. Well this restaurant blew us away. First off the service was like nothing I have every experienced and we dine frequently. The waiters would...time the delivery of your dish to the table with a precision I have never witnessed before- both plates set down at the exact same time. It was like watching a choreographed play. And the food….WOW. I had snails and eel-two things I would never have eaten before and loved it. The chocolate cigar dessert presentation was so creative. I still crave and think about this meal daily. Pray that we have the chance to travel back someday!More

It was recommended by a friend and we were glad that we took the advice as it was the best meal of our whole 3 week vacation in Europe. The ambience and service are superb! The speed of service and food are also optimal. We...tried the lunch menu with 2 wines, water and café. The wine is one of the best we tasted during our trip. All the food were delicious but we particularly loved the dessert with plums. The bread, pastry and home-made butter were also sumptuous. The best petite-four I had and The cookie souvenir was a nice touch. A round of applause to all the chefs, managers and servers especially their pastry chef! The lunch menu price is of very good value too. But will definitely want to try their tasting menu next time. A must try in Strasbourg. Will visit again if I have a chance.More

So, you really think the "bulldog" was the best restaurant in the world? Not bad with a fine view of the little bay. The best restaurant often depends on the day.
