We were purchasing some glasses in Rue de Pont Neuf and asked the assistant for a recommendation for lunch - she instantly suggested Bistro des Halles and we are very glad she did. It was very busy when we arrived but the waiter had no trouble fitting us in. All around were Parisiennes so we felt the ambience to be... More

Stopped for quick lunch as walking past. Looked nice, menu in French but ordered one of their planches as recommended by the waiter, great mix of meats, pates and terrines with bread. Really tasty and more than enough for 2 for lunch. Great little spot.

A traditional little french restaurant, of course very busy during lunchtime. The menu is written on a blackboard, in french only of course. The food is really excellent, traditional french cuisine.

It was in the afternoon and we had not eaten all day because of a full morning of activity. We were in search of a spot for lunch. Usually we are not big eaters at noon. So we were looking for something simple. As we perused the menu a half-block away, one of the patrons quickly critiqued the local restaurants... More

A true hidden gem, especially for the area. It's a bit more expensive than your average Parisian bistrot, but the quality is without comparison. It's a family affair too, with the landlady running the kitchen all by herself... Awesome, friendly atmosphere, truly a rarity these days in Paris. Sadly they are closing for good....:-(

Came across this restaurant by chance and went in to explore, looking for a local Parisian restaurant. Had to make my way through the thriving bar to get to the black board to see the menu. Not a wide selection but authentic real Parisian food. The others in the restaurant we locals and the waiter went out of his way... More

For those looking a restaurant in Central Paris (1st arrondissement): a very good option. Don't expect "grande cuisine" or a menu with 487 choices as in a Chinese restaurant. Only 6 or 7 traditional options (e.g. "andouillette"), plus 2 or 3 desserts. Also, a short list of wines, but qualityis there, and prices are quite reasonable. Local clients, many of... More

Staying in Les Halles

Neighbourhood Profile
Les Halles
Historically the central iron-clad market of Paris, Les Halles has evolved architecturally since then but the pulsating energy has stayed the same. Now it houses the main shopping mall, which nestles underground surrounded by fast-food take-aways and international restaurants coupled with beautiful churches and the old commodity exchange. Parallel to it are the high-street stores of Rue de Rivoli and just parallel to that the Seine. The area bustles with faces from all continents and all ages at all times of the day. If enjoying high-street shopping with easy access to fast eateries and lively bars is on your agenda, this is the place to go.
