The owner greeted us when we arrived, realized we were American and immediately started speaking English. The high quality service and food continues from there. Ahead of the curve wine and pepper pairings made the evening that more enjoyable and educational. Very welcoming, quaint and worth the trip.

Wonderful staff. Speak English very well. Beautiful, intimate, very "Parisian" bistro in arrondissement 8, near Madeleine church. We were lucky enough to get a table for 5 (2 adults, 3 teens) with just 1 hour notice for dinner at 9pm- I'd say this was lucky timing as this is a hot spot. Fois gras is unusual in that it is... This Bistro is very close to our Hotel so we decided to give it a try. When I asked the owner before making the reservation why there where no salads on the menu he remarked " we make better things than that, but if you like we can throw together a salad for you". Unfortunately I took this confidence on... More

Met a Parisian friend here. Pigs feet app was excellent. As were salads. Mallard in a croute also great, the meat being quite dark with strong flavors. Veal tartare with seafood disappointing, as flavors were bland. Desserts fine. Nice place, though brightly lit with few customers, so it was missing a buzz. Corsican white for $55 was pricey but good,... More

This is a very nice bistro, close to the Opera (we were going to a show that night) with helpful and friendly staff. Food was on the bland side - but maybe that was our choice.

Bistro Volnay was recommended to us by our Concierge at Hotel Castille for our last hurrah lunch in Paris. It was one of the best places of our entire visit. The service was friendly with excellent recommendations. The food and wine was exceptional, the crowd was a Parisian business crowd which made us feel like locals in the best of... More

I went to this restaurant twice, once in March and once in June. March for dinner, June for lunch. Both times the food was delicious (highly recommend the sweetbreads, the cheese board and the coolant au chocolat), the service was perfect and the staff very friendly. The prices are very reasonable for the high quality of the experience and the... More

Lunch for two, had the three course menu with coffee-food was delicious , service was excellent, client was happy, came to just over EUR 100 (incl. service) which for the area, the service, quality of food & the ambience represents great value I think! Will definitely go again when in Paris next time.

Staying in Opera / Bourse

Neighbourhood Profile
Opera / Bourse
The neighbourhood around Opéra and Bourse is a belle époque paradise of grand boulevards, refined arcades, and mass-market art-nouveau entertainment. Here, modern day workers continue to take advantage of the legacy that nobility and finance left in the 19th century. Brightly-lit brasseries, theatres, and cinemas sit side by side with French bistros predominating in one area and Japanese restaurants in another. The area is most famous for the Palais Garnier opera house and glamorous department stores.
