With a heavy heart I must report that the great Aux Charpentiers, where we have been enjoying lunch for 20 or more years, has closed. This was perhaps the most characterful restaurant in Paris - a quirky, old-fashioned bistro with an irreplacable atmosphere, and terrific yet simple food (not least the wonderful andouiette). Where shall we see its like again?... More

Aux Charpentiers it's a 40 yrs old fashioned bistro serving popular cuisine with some Correzian dishes. Don't expect creativity or subtility you get what you expect, invigorating classic home cooking. Onion soup, celery remoulade, andouillette Duval, black pudding, clafoutis, Côtes du Rhône. Decor is as traditional as food and clients. Frontage of wood and glass, old prints of carpenters guild... More

From Danish Television I was recommended the tatar, so I went there. Table reservation by phone went perfect, reception very fine, prompt and smiling service and food was excellent. I still prefer the Danish version of Tatar :-) Guest was frequent visitors and premises served their function. No luxury, well used. Management was very active in asking, serving and making... More

We have recently moved to Paris from London and came to Aux Charpentiers for our first taste of snails and amazing perfectly cooked cote de boeuf! The restaurant started out quite empty but soon filled up and we were lucky we arrived when we did or we may not have got a table! The staff are friendly and I definitely... More

Cozy restaurant. Real French atmosphere. We got foie gras. Excellent Tartar. Best I have ever tried. Good homemade frites. Kids got burger. Not child friendly. Bit expensive but what isn't in Pairs :-) My biggest recommendation.

A traditional Paris bistro near St Suplice, we have had lunch here on a number of occasions. We have settled on the boudin noir as it is so good. It is served just with roast apple. Very simple, very tasty.

You are looking for a cool place, for simple, quality traditional french cuisine, that's the one. No surprises, years after years, the chef(s) prepare good food. The service is jovial though the waiters can be very busy.

This is NOT a 3 star Michelin restaurant. But it has soul and they know how to cook. Great pepper steak! Only French spoken - medium rare can get difficult. And excellent Crème Brûlée. The red wine could've been more characteristic.

This historic bistro was originally opened in 1856 and is a real institution in Paris' Saint Germain des Pres district. The name 'Aux Charpentiers' means 'To Carpenters', and the restaurant has engravings, photos and furniture commemorating this noble trade. The menu is traditional French bistro fare with a certain amount of influence from the rural Correze region with its famous Limousine beef. The atmosphere is friendly with an eclectic mix of locals, tourists, politicians and journalists.
