We had been advised to book a table and the place was full from 8 pm. There were few French among the clientele in the room in which we were seated, and I'd guess that Americans were in the majority. The restaurant does traditional French cuisine well enough, but neither B's pollock nor my steak knocked my socks off. A number of wines were available by the glass, but the list and description of those was given somewhat grudgingly - to us, to the French man in the corner. I found the woman taking orders and serving barely civil, though she had friendly interactions with another table. It is rather expensive for what it was, where it is, especially in conjunction with unpleasant service. Disappointing.

Imagine this, You and your family walking through Paris starving sick from the hotel food that you had to eat earlier. You are waking down the cobble side road and you find a small bakery on the east side. You walk in and find out that the small bakery is actually not small at all and you need to book three weeks in advance. When we walked in and we heard this news we were astounded at the price and the prestige of the seemingly small bakery. The staff was wonderful even though we did not order ahead they allowed us to take a spot of someone that did not show up.(SHOCKER) I sat down and was greeted with excellent service wonderful seating and a nice view of Paris. I ordered the breakfast and sank my teeth into the wonderful creamy delight of it. I felt the confection sugar pierce my tongue with a sweat taste of lavender. This restaurant was a 10/10 must go to bakery it is worth the wait and it delivers when you need it.

We watched Andrew Zimmern's " Delicious Destinations" which recommended Paul Bert's as the quintessential Paris Bistro for Steak Frites. We decided to book a lunch date. The Bistro offers a daily prix fix lunch with three courses for a very reasonable 20 to 25 Euros. I ordered ala carte with wonderfully prepared veal sweetbreads in a puff pastry followed by steak frites. The tenderloin steak was marvelously tasty and tender in a green peppercorn sauce. The fries were the best I have ever eaten. Dessert was warmed apples with vanilla ice cream and house-made caramel sauce. My wife had a tasty zucchini salad followed by roast chicken and potatoes. The servers were amazing. We also met the gracious Paul Bert himself. The waiter suggested some wines by the glass which perfectly matched the first two courses. We finished with an Armagnac and calvados after dinner drink. Did I mention the enormous wine list? It is worth perusal.

Overall a bad experience as the restaurant was noisy, overcrowded and uncomfortable. Also most of the dishes on the menu had already finished by 9PM so we had to choose amongst the leftover alternatives. While we were 5 friends at the table, we were initially served with only 4 amuse-bouche and had to request for more to the waiter who was rushing from a table to the other. Wine was extremely expensive and the overall quality of the food was rather average and not as expected from a French brasserie. We paid 65 EUR per persons and left very disappointed. We will not go back.

Incredibly rude waitress; I’ve never had anything like it. My partner just wanted a starter and dessert which we were told wasn’t acceptable and we needed to order more food. We should have just walked out but we stayed. I wish we’d left as the food was incredibly average and the service rushed and rude throughout. There are million other bistros is Paris better than this.

Bistrot Paul Bert had the classic bistro experience we were looking for during our foodie adventure in Paris. We walked in without a reservation just after they opened on Wednesday- we were seated right away however be mindful that this was off season in March and a crowd started to appear as we were leaving the restaurant. The highlight for me was the Grand Marnier Souffle and a dessert that I cannot forget. Absolutely perfect in every way. The duck was delicious and the portions are just right.

Had lunch here today, and will not likely return. We were seated and ordered, after which a French television personality was seated near us. The celebrity and his companion had finished their three course meal and coffee before we got the carafe of water we requested. The steak I ordered was tough, fatty, and under seasoned, and the frites were cold. Service was surly and extremely slow. One of our party was served 20 minutes before the other three. Maybe a great spot for celebrities like Anthony Bourdain, but average diners should find somewhere else to frequent.

We did not have a reservation but went to the Paul Bert bar next door to the restaurant about 20 minutes before dinner seating began and a lovely bar tender went to the bistro next door and ensured we had a table (it wasn't the best in the house but not the worst either). The Œuf dur mayonnaise, salade de pommes de terre was simply the best, the cod was wonderful and my husband was over the moon with his Filet de bœuf au poivre de Sarawak, frites maison. The souffle was eggy and I wasn't a fan. I was surprised when I asked for butter for my bread I was told that they had a run on it at lunch and were out .... since they are closed from 2:00 to 7:30, I would assume one could re-stock.

We decided to give it a try after all the great reviews on this restaurant. Unique and peculiar describes the atmosphere of this parisian bistro. Attendants are very friendly, the menu written in a blackboard that runs around the restaurant so the clients can read it properly made me smile… Food: Maybe for having such high expectations, found the food good, but nothing that specially stands up.

Had a very enjoyable meal here a few weeks ago at this charming bistro. Service is efficient - entrees were on the table in no time at all eggs with morels and a delicious vegetable salad, followed by fillet steak in a Sarawak peppercorn sauce, with incredible fries. There’s a 20 min wait however if you order the grand marnier soufflé (easily enough to feed 2) and the Îles flottants is so huge it was more like a continent than a mere Île. Arrive on a Saturday and you can also explore the little flea market on the Rue du faubourg saint-Antoine.

We were incredibly impressed. This is true French food. We went for lunch and ordered one daily menu and one lunch menu. We got cream of scallop soup, bone marrow, skate with caper butter sauce, rabbit with mustard sauce, Paris-brest, and apple tart. Every bite was incredible. The service was fabulous.

We visited Paul Bert on a recent visit to Paris based on our previous experiences and the quality of the steak! Well, we won’t be visiting again after this last time! We both ordered the Fillet of Beef with the pepper sauce and French Fries - the house specialty! The price was 44€ each and we had what should have been a mid range Crozes Hermitage to accompany. The wine was chilled beyond recovery so really closed and acidic rather than mellow and warm. The steak was over cooked by some way ( order was medium rare) and less the 1.5 cms in depth! It was even a bit chewy so suspect it has lived a very long life on the hoof….. Overall, a major disappointment and especially with its reputation!

We had our first truly disappointing evening here. We are in Paris for a month and speak passable French, as we are in the process of learning and were treated with a fair amount of arrogance and seated poorly in a restaurant with rave reviews?/ what’s all the fuss you ask? Must be the food. Right? However, for fairly expensive bistro food, it was not at all special and we would actually rate disappointing. We were never offered coffee or anything to go with our rather disappointing dessert. We have had so many wonderful meals and experiences in Paris and France, this was not one of them.

Wow. Wonderful food on a little back street. Get there if you can. Reservations recommended for dinner and they don’t open till 7:30pm, but lunch is no problem if you arrive at noon. The Supreme Poulet was the best chicken I’ve ever eaten.

We have been to Bistrot Paul Bert several times, and keep coming back. It is a quite popular old school, classic Parisian bistro. It is a bit off the beaten track, and the clientele seems to be a mix of locals and tourists. The decor is comfortable but not at all fancy, the menu is pretty simple and mostly consists of basic bistro standards, heavy on meat. We have always been very happy there. On our most recent visit we had the most delightful waitress...very friendly, very efficient, and simply charming. She made our visit special and ensured that we'll be back again. While the food is a solid "4," I rated the restaurant a "5" because of the overall experience.
