I was pleasantly surprised by Le Cardinal. It was conveniently located on Boulevard des Italiens and had some character to it. Our family tried snails (escargot) for the first time, which were good. All of our dishes were good. I liked this place.

This restaurant is great if you want traditional French , good service, food was really tasty , I had escargot for the first time and they were perfect totally recommend this place very reasonable. Only thing wrong tables all to small just enough room for your plate and drink.

Go for a quick coffee or a beer not for eating. The quality of food is low,the place seems dirty and the staff tired and unhappy. In a perfect location and therefore full of tourists.

We had planned to eat at Hard Rock Cafe just down the street from this place but was told it was an hour wait for a table so ended up at Le Cardinal by pure chance. It was busy so a good atmosphere. Staff were all friendly and helpful, unlike some of the comments below and the food was good.... More

We had a three course dinner, a glass of champagne and coffee as well, nice ambiance, good food but the service could be improved. The waiter didn't check us about the food, he just cleared the plates and didn't request any feedback from us. Good location though, quite close to the Paris landmarks.

Hard to screw up a Cesar Salad, but all I could taste was anchovy. The outside cafe seemed to be okay, but it is very hit and miss with management as they apparently make up rules every day. Avoid.

After walking around for 2 hours and looking for a lovely restaurant my family and i ended up Le Cardinal....what a mistake!! A SPIDER crawled out from inside my Croque Monsier side salad!!! My family and i were instantly put off our food thinking about what the conditions in the kitchen we like! The manager was sitting a table away... More

We picked this restaurant as it was just around the corner from our hotel and close to the location of the restaurant (no longer there) where we had eaten on our honeymoon 39 years ago. While clearly aimed at tourists, the service on the sidewalk area was good and afforded us a great view of the the street life. The... More

This is a real tourist trap. Thanks to their perfect location, they can scam many ignorant tourists. If you read this, learn from my mistakes and find another restaurant. We ordered escalops / snails. Smallest escalops ever. They were the same size as my thumb (look at my picture). Service and staff are stressed and careless. We just wanted to... More

We used to go in any bistrot in Paris and eat well; well this is not true anymore. Cold tasteless toasts and cold half baked goat cheese. All squeeze in the same corner sitting on top of each other while the restaurant was half empty.

Staying in Opera / Bourse

Neighbourhood Profile
Opera / Bourse
The neighbourhood around Opéra and Bourse is a belle époque paradise of grand boulevards, refined arcades, and mass-market art-nouveau entertainment. Here, modern day workers continue to take advantage of the legacy that nobility and finance left in the 19th century. Brightly-lit brasseries, theatres, and cinemas sit side by side with French bistros predominating in one area and Japanese restaurants in another. The area is most famous for the Palais Garnier opera house and glamorous department stores.
