I love driving off road or on dirt roads. Ever since we were young. Staying in La Barra with dear friend we dragged her to lunch and she liked it so much after demurring the year before. We had a lovely meal with great local wines and had so much fun in the beautiful setting out doors that we went... More

Getting to this out of the way place is half the fun. 20 minutes on a dirt road through the Uruguay countryside. The restaurant is perfect. Indoor and outdoor. The food was very good but in our opinion it wasn't quite 5 stars. Still totally worth a visit just to say you did!

I was extremely disappointed with my experience at Mallmman's restaurant in Garzon. I had already been to his restaurant in Mendoza 10 years ago, and was led by the first great impression. The restaurant and the food are good, but still overpriced. The big problem is with their wine list: they only serve wines from their co-owner Bodega Garzon. The... More

Stayed in Garzon at our friends ranch and drove to Mallmann's for a snack and drink. One of the most beautiful spaces ever by one of the greatest chefs. Three rooms if you want to stay for the night (or two). It doesn't get any better than this from the food to the atmosphere to the clientele! (It is very,... More

It is hard to believe that you drive 30 minutes down a dirt road to find this gem and not only is it the best, but also the most expensive, meal we ate in all of Uruguay. It is literally in the middle of nowhere but Frances Mallmann lives up to his reputation in this quaint poolside restaurant serving top... More

While the food is absolutely amazing and the service very high quality, I can't give it 5 stars because I felt it was very expensive for what you got. Definitely deserves to be pricey, but I almost felt that with the prices they were charging, they are laughing at all their customers who are stupid enough to pay the prices.... More

My friends and I trekked out to Garzon around New Year's in 2011 and after hanging out along the coast, we splurged and spent an afternoon that turned to evening at Mallmman's spot. W.O.W. Perfectly relaxed, wonderfully fresh and simple flavors. Francis was there and recommended we also check out Lucifer, speaking fondly of the chef/owner. The space begs you... More

We lingered in the shady, beautiful courtyard and loved the food, from the sourdough bread, hummus, olives, to the main courses. Only the beef was, we felt, too much and not excepcional. Otherwise everything was clearly cooked from scratch/at home, and not "out of a box", as in so many supposedly five star restaurants these days. Service was perfect mix... More

We ate a late lunch here with three older children. Our first server seemed frustrated by our lack of much Spanish, but the next server and the manager were both extremely nice. The food was fresh and delicious - even our three picky children agreed that it was by far the best meal of our trip. The lamb, local fish,... More
