This restaurant has a wonderful atmosphere and the food was amazing. The night we were there it was full of locals and our waitress was very helpful translating the menu for us. The quenelles were perfectly cooked and the chicken with morelles was delicious. This is probably the most traditional/authentic bouchon experience you can have in the city! I am... More

Had a really enjoyable meal in a packed dining room at Café Comptoir Abel. It is French. It is a Bouchon (I think). However, we were given an English language menu without asking (we're perfectly capable of reading French). And that kind of reflects the international trade a restaurant like this attracts in Lyon. I guess around half the people... More

Nice decor, but a bit disappointed by food... Atmosphere was a bit cold and maybe more for a date than for a group of friends. Food was a bit disappointing, not bad but not so yummy.

I had been given a recommendation to try this place from a shop assistant at Hermes. The dining room is full of character. I felt that time had stood still, and a fond memory of the past continued to live on in this restaurant. And perhaps that is the case. The food was good, but not great. The salad lyonnais... More

We had one night in Lyon and the owner of our hotel recommended that we try the Cafe Comptoir Abel. We looked at the menu online and made a reservation on their website which was very easy. Having read several reviews about how some people had been treated a little poorly after arriving late for a reservation we made sure... More

Go to Abel's for the sort of traditional food that the lucky Lyonnaise can get just by dropping in, as many of the diners did tonight. What a great local to have! They don't come here for exciting cuisine, for a reason. But my salade lyonnaise that we shared and my steak with morel sauce were beautiflly executed, my daughter's... More

This restaurant has a big reputation and the dining room was a typical Lyon bouchon. The room is fascinating and busy. But the food was boring. The tradition of the bouchon was to have good atmosphere but simple food. That was the case here as the food had little seasoning. The sauces were rich but lacking flavour. Go for the... More

We were staying with friends in Lyon, and they took us here for a traditional meal. Make a reservation, it was a Wed night & they were full. I had a Quennelle de Brochet (not sure what exactly it was, but it was delicious!) and my husband had a steak. The sauces for both dishes were just excellent.

Perfect place for an authentic bouchon experience. Decor is traditional and old-timey (my favorite decor/ambiance during my lyon visit), food was authentic (they don't make quenelle like that anymore!), and service was good. For some reason, I didn't feel as comfortable here as I did at other restaurants. Maybe it was the not 100%-friendly/attentive waitress, or because we were seated... More
