We were searching for something different to the faceless expensive restaurants which pepper tourist resorts. We booked to go to the top listed restaurant in Mittenwald but we were put off by the overpriced menu. The Little Potato Sack is a tiny venue but we were attracted to it as it seemed to ooze welcoming vibes. On opening the door,... More

We stopped in the Kleine kartoffelsack for lunch today (September 9,2016) and eat lunch. We had eaten here two years ago when we traveled to Mittenwald, Germany. As its name implies (kartoffel) many of the means have something to do with potatoes. The food is simply wonderful and is served by two lovely young sisters who also own the restaurant.... More

On our first try, despite being early, we couldn't get seated - the place was absolutely packed. so we made a reservation for the next evening. Food absolutely delicious and service very friendly (some people might experience it as overbearing though). Menu also in English. We got a "Schnaps" on the house for visiting after they couldn't accommodate us the... More

Amazing little place right on the main street in Mittenwald. Get there early because it fills up fast - mostly with locals

The name says it all! "The small potato sack". If you eat inside and there are more than about four other people you will likely be seated with other guests in typical european fashion. Not a problem though, try your best German & make new friends. Great potato dishes! The gratin are the best. Nice change from the typical meat... More

You need to go here and eat their potato gratin - it is wonderful. I ate here with my children (ages 7 and 9), and initially they weren't sure about the gratin. Our lovely waitress offered to bring a sample to the table for them to try before we ordered. One of the girls didn't like the gratin (too cheesy... More

The name's a bit of a clue to their speciality dishes - with a few exceptions, everything comes with potatoes in one form or another. They feature mainly local dishes, which is nice - as it was mid afternoon, we settled for a couple of salads which were absolutely fresh and very tasty. Service was pleasant and speedy - well...
