This really is a class establishment. There is a very large in the basement dedicated to food, part is a very high class'Deli' whilst the rest is divided into restaurants serving various dishes including Oysters.

If you want an affordable lunch spot with much variety in downtown Berlin, this is the place. You have to go downstairs to the "food court" and you will find several different cuisines. We opted for some sandwiches and salad, which were very tasty. It is very quick so if you are sightseeing you don't lose much time. Ask for... More

Lafayette Gourmet is not as good as it has been. The various eateries have taken a nose dive. Pastries and cakes look jaded, they should be stunning, but the personnel here are dour and unfriendly. A young teenager taking a picture of the pastries was informed it was forbidden. Get real Lafayette! You are supposed to be French, will a... More

A very nice gourmet food market. I found some new products that I enjoyed sampling. I went to this market and picked up little snacks, drinks, or gifts every day while I was in Berlin. An excellent place to shop and/or snack.

Although Lafayette Gallery and Gourmet supermarket is not really what one expect in terms of size but as usual, place offers top quality food on the lower floor & upscale clothing brands on the upper floor

There are a range of food areas in the basement offering beautifully prepared french styled food and wines in a nice atmosphere. We ate here twice and it was the best food we had during our stay in Berlin.

We ate at the La Maison Norwegian part of the place. We had baked potatoes stuffed with crab meat and a Louis Jadot Pouilly Fusse. The food was excellent, and the wine even better. The place is not inexpensive, but the food is good and almost worth the higher price. The server, while very busy, was pretty attentive and did... More

Go there! Be surprised by the high quality and variety of the food and drinks offered. And be prepared for the equally high prices. For special occasions or just to have a cup of coffee and enjoy all the eye candy of how the food is presented.

Staying in Mitte

Neighbourhood Profile
The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighbourhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
