After a wonderful sunny day in Berlin we decided to end the day with a Steak and a glass of wine. Unfortunately we chose Escados. The Staff were extremely rude. Our Steaks had to be sent back to the kitchen as they weren't cooked as we requested. The final insult was the waiter delivering our bill and highlighting to us... More

We walked in and 3 waiters looked at us and immediately turned away and started chatting amongst themselves and it wasn't busy. The 4th who I believe is the manager took us to our table after waiting for awhile. The menu had good variety steak, burger and side dishes, I would say slightly high priced than down the road steakhouse.... More

We visited Escado after the peak lunch hour so when we entered the restaurant there was only one other couple there. The place is huge. We couldn’t tell if it was open from the street level and had to climb upstairs to see if it was open. A sign at street level would be good. I wasn’t sure if this... More

Had dinner here on a busy friday night. The food was great. Had spicy pork ribs and french fries. Loved it. We enjoyed everything. Reasonable prices, nice staff, pretty cool place. Near Alexanderplatz.

Food was good, service not so good. Ok, maybe a little better than at avarage german restaurant. It was a hot day and beer was warm!! Not good at all! :) Little slow service maybe. Burgers were cheap, about 10€

On our study trip we went to eat Restaurant Escados in Alexander Platz which has big banderol outside saying ‘Best steaks’, well food was good but the best, I don’t know. When we get inside I liked what I saw, atmosphere was nice and cosy, there was water fountain and interior was rustic but service in that place was horrible,... More

After a chilly chilly day we enjoyed the warm cosy ambience and the good food. Loved the carpaccio as a starter and rib eye for the main. The staff can make the visit more welcoming though.

Staying in Mitte

Neighbourhood Profile
Mitte
The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighbourhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
