We entered the cafe to a bored, nonchalant welcome. There was an Asian girl with a platt who didn’t look very happy to see us. We ordered and the price came to 10.70 - so I gave her 20.80 and I said it’ll be 10.10...More

Every morning we would drop into Balzac for our breakfast. Great coffee and fantastic German pastries. I think it is a chain of coffee shops but don’t let this put you off.

Good coffee in a Starbucks-type clone, Berlin-style. Near Museum Island and very close to excellent DDR Museum, not far from river and a quiet large park across the street. Came in mid-afternoon and found service and coffee at a high standard, with a relaxed atmosphere...More

Nice space with decent coffee. They have plant milk and even have a vegan breakfast sandwich. Overall decent if you need a quick coffee or snack - or if you're missing the American coffee shop experience. I'd recommend going to a more local sit-down café,...More

I liked this place because I got to get a huge cup of coffee like in the States. If you're into American-style shops, this is for you.

Popped into the coffee house near our hotel after a long morning on our feet. Good coffee, a good banana loaf and pleasant, helpful service - all for a reasonable price.

Balzacs were available on most street corners and served delicious drinks- think Starbucks for Europe but more reasonable in cost- the coffee did not taste burnt like Starbucks can be.

Balzacs came to the rescue a couple times during our visit to Berlin when we couldn't locate a handy Starbucks or when Starbucks was closed (didn't open til 9 am!!). Enjoying our lattes outside this particular location allowed a great observation post for the amazing...More

The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights
like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum
