The most amazing cocktails I had in Berlin, with a great vibe and the most beautiful and cozy light in all places I have been.

After eating we decided to sample some Berlin bars, we had seats at the bar and consumed far too much wine. The bar was busy, but there are different rooms so there was plenty of space. The waitress was amazing, singlehandedly dealing with all the drinks! Looks a bit different now to the published photos Good road to sample a... More

The Würgeengel is a very nice bar with classical bar atmosphere. The selection of drinks is very good, and the White Russian a little "different" but still very good. Atmosphere is good, not too loud, so you can have a decent conversation. Unfortunately, as in most of the bars in Berlin, everybody smokes... Service was ok, but not overly friendly.... More

We had to wait a little while to be let into this bar, but loved the atmosphere once inside. It seemed to house a real mix of people, all ages and persuasions and it felt very decadent. We were lucky to nab a couple of seats at the bar after a little wait, and sat watching the barmen do their... More

You wouldn't be sure when you first come in the door, but the non-smoking section (the back half of the room) is really well-ventilated and smoke-free. The clientele tends to be a bit pretentious, and sometimes the service too, but if you feel like a decent drink without a haze of cigarette smoke, this does the job.

I met friends in the Wurgenveel on a Friday night. We sat down and chatted over cold beers in this stylish, cosy, shabby chic pub. We stuck to some local beer but I noticed that fellow patrons were enjoying classic cocktails. A great place for chats. Not for non-smokers though! Unfortunately, around midnight my handbag was stolen from right under... More

This place is absolutely unforgettable! When you walk into Würgeengel you get the kind of "Midnight in Paris" feeling of walking into another era. First of all I love the Buñuel reference, especially because it is accurate! The aesthetic is just on point: The furniture, the lighting, the glasses, the bar, the ceiling, the bartenders' uniforms.. we wanted to buy... More

This cosy and pricey place used to be one of my favourites in Kreuzberg, Berlin. Last night me and my friends experienced a nasty close to racist welcoming from the man at the door. The place was obviously almost empty and he refused to let us in arguing that it was full. 30 seconds later a couple came in and... More

We arrived in Berlin late at night, and headed out at 11PM to find a place to get a few drinks. It seemed everything was closed, until we found this area. We found this fine establishment, and were skeptical at first. Much to our pleasure, they spoke English, and service was spectacular. We hard great cocktails, and listened to Tom... More

This place came very highly recommended. The cocktails are amazing, and the bar itself is lovely. Good atmosphere. Two downsides: the service was a bit slow, and almost everyone was smoking. Coming from the UK, it felt like stepping back in time! It tarnished what was a lovely time, coming out of there stinking of smoke.

Staying in Kreuzberg

Neighbourhood Profile
Berlin's revolutionary heart and immigrant roots can both be found in Kreuzberg, but this central neighbourhood is beginning a new chapter. In the 1950s and '60s, Turkish guest workers settled around Kottbusser Tor, while in the 1980s and '90s, rambunctious squatters and artists gathered to live a carefree life here. An old hospital even became a hotspot of riots between squatters and police. Today you can still find the best kebabs in town and many underground clubs, but a lot has changed as well. The hospital has been transformed into an art center, and increasingly you will find new urban cafés, restaurants and designer shops. Rising housing prices and gentrification threaten the spirit of this area along the Spree River, but the neighbourhood’s legacy is upheld by a very engaged community fighting to preserve its rebellious identity.
