Austria is a cosy Austrian restaurant in Kreuzberg. I had a classic "Tafelspitz" that was huuuge. And the Wienerschnitzel my friend ate was even bigger. The Tafelspitz was ok, not more. But I still recommend this popular place.

Good portion of Schnitzel but average potato salad (tasteless) and cucumber salad. The Schnitzel is big and thin with a crispy crust and really tasty. But the rest is disappointing and ridiculous expensive, 4.90€ for half a Liter cordial - really? Water and Sirup is more expensive than a beer?

We lived just around the corner from this restaurant for six months. Neighbors raved about how fantastic the schnitzel was! They were absolutely correct! The price may seem high, but the product you receive it worth it! The service is very typical for Germany & the Kreuzberg neighborhood. Americans are not used to being left alone to eat in peace... Food here was good - authentic and hearty portions. Everybody seemed to be eating schnitzel, so we had the same. Very tasty! However, indifferent service, and lack of card paymets slightly let this place down.

Austria had been highly recommended to us. We had a fine table, service was fine, but the wienerschnitzel was simply too big even we both ordered the small one. I wonder whether this size of meat is in accordance with the "dont waste food" movement. Half of mine went direct out again - even if we had not had lunch!

Waitress as very friendly, not an extensive menu but what they had was typical Austrian food of good quality and quantity. If your looking for a hearty filling meal you will definitely find it here. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Poor service, nothing to eat if you're veggy or vegan (well, they do have a poor salad on menu) and on top of it all, located in a dirty neighbourhood, and very expensive. My partner for the trip to Berlin ate the winner schnitzel and said it was excllent. I woulnd't know, because I'm veganm, but my personal overall experience... More

Not worth the taxi ride out to Kreuzberg. Have had better Wiener Schnitzel in London. Mine was tough, though to be fair enjoyed theirs.

For years, this place has been a must for fiends of traditional Austrian cooking, without chichi and flourishes. Here, everything is cooked by hand. The Wiener Schnitzel looms, just like before, beyond the plate. The frest country beer bubbles out of the basement. Those who can should not do wothout a sugared, cut-up pancake, the Kaiserschmarrn, with raisins.

Staying in Kreuzberg

Neighbourhood Profile
Berlin's revolutionary heart and immigrant roots can both be found in Kreuzberg, but this central neighbourhood is beginning a new chapter. In the 1950s and '60s, Turkish guest workers settled around Kottbusser Tor, while in the 1980s and '90s, rambunctious squatters and artists gathered to live a carefree life here. An old hospital even became a hotspot of riots between squatters and police. Today you can still find the best kebabs in town and many underground clubs, but a lot has changed as well. The hospital has been transformed into an art center, and increasingly you will find new urban cafés, restaurants and designer shops. Rising housing prices and gentrification threaten the spirit of this area along the Spree River, but the neighbourhood’s legacy is upheld by a very engaged community fighting to preserve its rebellious identity.
