Followed up a guide's recommendation and found a fascinating, quiet lunch spot. Waitress spoke very little English; not a problem as the menu was also in English. We opted for local dishes, pan-fried plaice and a fisherman's breakfast. Plus two beers. Good hearty food.

It might be the speciality but I went for the fish, pan fried. Very good as was the crawfish soup. My spouse had the herring and the eel and said they were both delicious. The server was lovely and spoke English well. They have English menus but the place doesn't feel touristy. It is on the canal and we had... More

From the beginning we had a feeling that the waiter (the owner) was ignoring us. We waited a while before we were given the menus and a little more before ordering. We both wanted fried eel which has become a delicacy these days and we were prepared to pay the price. We speak German very well so we ordered in... More

Nice setting in Hamburgs speicherstadt. We had the local eel soup and 3 different kinds of fish, matjes, scholle etc. all was of great quality and fresh. The service was good, restaurant run by family Well recommended place if your looking for typical Hamburg local food.

Good restaurant, well located in a quite street together with other Restauran. The food is good and taste, nothing extraordinary but a nice place to spend the evening on the street tables. There is a small parking place close to the restauran.

Family from all over Germany and UK met here to enjoy a fabulous meal in wonderful, historic surroundings. Ideally situated before visiting the Reeperbahn and a wonderful time was shared with great food and service.

A beautiful old cosy restaurant on an old Hamburg street The restaurant has a small terrace on the canal which is great if the weather is good The service is good .The restaurant specialises in herring and eel dishes each being presented in numerous sauces and with very many other accompaniments Good wine list also.

Well sever fish in German tradition. Suggest the fisherman's breakfast. The Herring in dill sauce is a must try.

Well the building is historic because its one of the only 7 buildings that survived the war as they told me , but the mood is dull , the restaurant next to it has a sitting area right over the canal water, the soup was great 5 stars for that ( eel and potato ) the salmon was not bad... More

We went to the Aalspeicher for dinner on a Friday evening and although we had made a reservation about a week in advance were put at a tiny table near the main door (which meant we basically froze the entire evening). We asked if we could ove to another table but were told that they were busy and couldn't help... More
