As we sat in the patio, we were talking about how they consistently have good food. We all had salads with our meal, they were excellent!! My vegetarian friend joined us, and she had a vegetarian meal with avocado, (I say she had a burger but that implies she had meat) She likes to go there because she can get... More

We booked through the Gijon Gourmet scheme, and the restaurant was recommended to us for its focus on seafood. We were not disappointed, and enjoyed a feast of home-smoked salmon, tender squid cooked in its ink and a delicious piece of sea bass. The atmosphere was cosy, with attractive rustic decor. The front of house staff were welcoming and efficient,... More

We have returned to El Candil every time we are in Gijon. It just gets better everytime! Started with an amazing smoked salmon with capers (smoked in house). Then moved to a Salpicon which is a cold seafood salad with crab, prawns, lobster (similar to Ceviche). The next dish was an outstanding Lubina (Sea bass) followed by an amazing Rey... More

We had a small romantic celebratory dinner in this restaurant. We pre-purchased a multi-course voucher from the Gijon travel office on the marina, very good value. The dishes were fresh and delicious, try the local seafood and squid ink rice. The staff were polite, efficient and friendly. White table clothes and a rustic old-school feel made it a great evening... More

Great culmination of culinary expertise and customer service. Owner Camacho makes you feel like royalty. The fish dishes change daily depending on the fresh catch, which the owner gets every morning at 4:00am down by port where the fishermen arrive form sea. wine selection is great. A must!

Firstly, before I review the resturant, let me say thank you to Senor Camacho and his staff for a meal that will live long in the memory. I urge anyone who is looking for a top quality restaurant in Gijon to look no further than the excellent and unassuming El Candil. This place is a must for anyone who enjoys... More

While searching for a well known restaurant, this restaurant was recommended by a local woman for Spanish cuisine made with love! Having a reservation at #1, we went there first. The #1 restaurant was empty at 10 pm and the staff was unimpressive and the prices were unreasonable even for a New Yorker! At that point, we decided to try... More
