I booked a table on the Terrace several weeks in advance and it was the correct decision. We had a lovely table directly opposite the beautiful illuminated Church where we could see all the action and savour in the San Sebastian atmosphere. The service from the lovely waitress from Barcelona who spoke excellent English was exemplary! Atari only serves one type of White Wine which we ordered, the rose being too dark for us, and it was extremely drinkable. An addition to the menu last night was Tomato Salad to share and it was a generous bowl of skinned tomatoes with onions in a lovely dressing. We also ordered 'Patatas Bravas', fried chunks of potato served with tomato and garlic dips. We accompanied this with the Beef cheek with mashed potato as a 'pintxos' which was melt in the mouth and a pintxos of warm foie gras with sweetcorn cream and white chocolate - excellent. The pintxos were served with very nice rustic bread. The overall bill including two bottles of wine was 78 Euros (£66), superb value for wine, food and a taste of San Sebastian life!

A fantastic place for pintxos! We popped in here on the off chance we would get a table and as we were early we were lucky to grab a bar table. We arrived about 6.45pm and the lady at the door kindly explained that the kitchen was closed til 7.30 but we could order a drink and have cold pinxtos from behind the bar until then. The cold pinxtos were delicious but when the kitchen opened the hot ones were amazing! By the time the kitchen opened all tables were full inside and out with a queue outside for tables! This was on a Monday night. The duck rice was unbelievable and the pork belly fantastic. Everything we had was wonderful and a serious step up from the other pintxo bars we tried. Still great value with 8 pinxtos and 5 drinks coming to €47. Highly recommended! Would also advise booking in advance if you can.

We popped in having seen Atari on the The Travel Man (in the UK) and wanted to try their French Toast with vanilla ice cream - OMG it was good !!
We enjoyed a couple of glasses of wine and the bill came to 12 euros - the service was so good, really friendly and helpful.
We would definitely go back and try other items on the menu (we had already had lunch the day we visited).

We waited in the line 30 minutes to get a place for dinner on Satueday at 10 PM so the place must be famous. However we were disappointed with the size of the portions. Calamari for 12 euro and it was almost nothing. The pintxos were not with bread as we expected. The mashed potato pure was delicious but again, prices were too expensive for the size of the portions. All in all, San Sebastian is an overpriced city, especially the restaurants in Old Town.

Booked a table for 8 people at 8pm .. when we arrived, the reservation sign showed the next reservation on the same table was 9pm. They weren’t willing to be flexible, we were chased through the order and meal, unable to enjoy our friends. Halfway through they turned up with two chairs and made us stand up and swap 2 chairs, because they had used 2 from the terrace to set our table originally, they were not willing to wait until we finished.
Then the prawn pintxos had 2x 1 cm pieces of wooden skewer inside the prawn, including the pointed end .. this was only found when already in the mouth .. their answer “it comes on a skewer “ but these were broken bits of stick in the food .. they just shrugged and walked away.
The rest of the food is delicious, but it’s over-rated, they know it and are not interested in the diners experience.

When you arrive to San Sebastián with your family you are excited to go and taste the pintxos. You don’t know where to start so you count on 2 things : advices and proximity. We started our first pintxos experience with Atari place. The kitchen was closed because it was over 23:00 no problem. We picked a few cold pintxos available at that time and we hade a few drinks. The waiter who served us left his place for a while and was replaced by a lady sorry not a lady a nervous impolite unhappy about her job and with no education woman! I asked for the check and as they were unorganized (don’t go there) she’d couldn’t find it so she asked me what I had : I gave the detail pintxo by pintxo drink by drink … she became nervous and I had the feeling that she didn’t trust me like if I wanted to fool her. She said very violently and rudely : this is only what you have, it is not enough, when did you arrive … and the voice climbing up. I told her very quietly in Spanish , listen first of all I am the client , show me a little bit of respect and talk quietly… she started shouting and called her manager … the second lady (not a lady by the way they are coming from the same uneducating school) took her defense and asked me to repeat again… in order to finish up quickly she gave me the check I paid and left without paying attention. When I arrived to the neighbor pintxos restaurant where the experience was very good (gandarias) I found out that 1) atari was much more expensive and 2) the 2nd woman charged we 4 pintxos at the most expensive price as if I took the same 4 most expensive pintxos.
Conclusion: when you have success and your restaurant is full you don’t pay anymore attention to the service and you cause this kind of incidents . All this because of poorly trained and poorly educated people who can damage your business

This is the place to go if you want to try pintxos and small plates of delicious food. The restaurant is located at the bottom of the "rich people's" church.
We made a reservataion months before we arrived in San Sabastian and was really glad we did because this place fills up quickly at lunch times. I'm sure the same is true in the evenings. The wine selection was varied, but nothing beats a tinto de verona (red wind and lemonade) on a hot day and Atari idid this really well.
The pintxos are more expensive compared with Bilboa but a meal for two very hungry people (with a drink each) came to @euros 50. We ordered double portions beef cheeks with mashed potatoe, king prawn skewers on a slice of bread, a portion of the typical chili pickles with tuna and olives, calamari, salt cod with scrambled egg......
The service was friendly and efficient. We were not rushed in anyway and I'm sure if we had stayed for a long desert, it would not have been a problem. We would definitely book again.

The food at this restaurant was incredible. We tried the octopus (pulpo), which was a shared plate, as well as the prawn bruschetta, pork belly, foie gras, and platillo, which were “pintxos,” or small plates. The service was fabulous and quick as well - our server gave us so many recommendations which were all fantastic, and I would recommend this place to everyone!

We had planned to make this Step One in a pintxos tour, but we could not stop ordering from the wonderful menu (dessert, at least, we saved for later). We started with fresh white tuna with anchovies and lemon-stuffed olives in olive oil. Next, we had early asparagus over curry hummus and herbed aioli. We had been sent by a local to have the grilled octopus from the entree menu, which we split but still left us full. It was grilled octopus over peppers, onions, potatoes and spicy aioli. It was so good, and we remarked that it had sufficiently spoiled us for the grilled octopus we get back in the United States. We had Basque cidre and txakoli (the local white wine), then finished with a regional apéritif, pacharán. It was a full, glorious taste of Basque Country, the Pays Basque. We’ll try pintxos-hopping tomorrow. But Atari Gastroteka enthralled and satisfied us tonight.

Atari Gastroleku is a local pintxos and wine bar just across from Basílica de Santa María at the corner of Calle Mayor and 31 de Agosto. They have a fair-sized indoor area as well as outdoor tables and are open from 12.30pm to 1am daily.
We visited around 2.30pm on a weekday afternoon and found them full up. However, waiting 5 or so minutes a table was freed up and we were able to enjoy a very good late lunch here. There is a barcode on the table with Spanish and English menu, wait staff were patient and helpful taking our orders, dishes were served in a timely manner and everything tasted very good. Ham croquettes were just fine. The pork belly in citrusy hummus was absolutely delicious, we decided to order another round. Pork was tender, succulent and tasted great on its own, with the hummus, it was heavenly good.
We also very much enjoyed the octopus serving of roasted potatoes along with grilled peppers and onion. This was a solid main, one we would happily return next time around as well. Our lunch was finished off with a delicious chocolate dessert. Wine served during lunch was very similarly very good, pairing well with our dishes. We left with very good impressions of this pintxos bar in San Sebastion. Atari seems to be a great place to eat in San Sebastion.

Reservation required to have a small table (even out of season).
Short but tempting menu. Unfortunately, two dishes were missing: tuna and hake.
These 2 fish, along with a few other products, are the essentials of Basque cuisine. For a restaurant that wants to be at the cutting edge of local cuisine, this is really bad! Moreover, the waitresses do not know the composition of the dishes, each time Sometimes they go back to the kitchen to ask how it’s prepared.
In short, what we managed to eat was excellent but the organization needs to be reviewed.

I enjoyed my time here. It was quite bustling, but the bar tender did a good job of attending to me when I needed her. I particularly liked the brocheta of langostinos (which appeared to shrimp to me) and the rice of the day, which had beef and corn and other things, all massively flavorful. I enjoyed their bacalao also/

The pinchos are tapas and they are elaborate, although a little expensive, they range between €4 and €6 each pincho. The waiters, a little slow and clueless. They have a lot of fuss and you have to understand it. If you want to go without there being a lot of crowds, you have to go between five and 7:00 in the afternoon, if not impossible.

Although there were free tables, we had to wait 20 minutes to be invited to the table. The waiter was very rude and the food was cold and the order brought wrong. Higher pay note. overall a very unpleasant experience.

One of the best gastro bars in the city.
Nice environment, inebriating atmosphere and quality pinxtos.
For just 5 euros they serve a Platillo de Bonito (pinxtos with tuna, anchovies, small green peppers and olives) that is crazy!
The place is always full from when it opens to when it closes and confusion reigns supreme.
The staff go out of their way to try to keep up with the countless customers and sometimes they forget you in a corner.
Therefore, if you have the possibility, it is better to book and make yourself comfortable at a table.
To visit at least once in your life!
